Game Of Thrones Action Figures By Mick Minogue

(Via)
As part of the Winter Is Coming art show at the Ltd. Art Gallery in Seattle (Running until March 23), over 90 pieces are currently being displayed by an international group of artists with their own takes on George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones.

While most people opted for illustrations in both digital and analog mediums, Mick Minogue truly went out of the box with this one, creating a fictional action figure line of some of the more memorable faces in the series. From the now one handed Jamie Lannister to the 'minimalist' Ned Stark on a stick, I'd buy these in a heart beat. Check out the rest of them after the break!

3A's Invincible Iron Man Toys Are Looking Incredible (Wallet Damage Incoming)

(Via)
Ashley Wood just shared production release photos of 3A's Invincible Iron Man, just the first in an ongoing collaboration with Marvel that will bring us unique takes on characters including Doctor Doom, Ultron, Spiderman, Thor and others over the next few years. Standing at 13.5 inches, the fully posable metal and PVC figure will feature illuminated eyes, chest and palms and ship sometime in Q3 2014.

Taste the limited palette rainbow.
Pricing wise these figures wil run for $220 a pop, with 4 variants- Classic, Silver Centurion, Stealth and the Stark Industries Prototype, which will only be available to members of the 3AA club (A yearly subscription for exclusives and other goodies). If you've got the money to burn, you can get a boxed set featuring all 4 for $800, without needing to be a 3AA member to get the 4th Stark Industries prototype figure.

As a proud owner of a few 3A toys, the craftsmanship on these 'toys' is so high that I prefer to consider them as fine art sculptures. Once you get one you'll never buy another toy again. The item will be available for preorder on February 13th at 9am Hong Kong Time (5pm PST, 7pm CST, 9pm EST) at the newly redesigned Bambaland Store. A boatload of shots from all the different variants after the break!

3A Announces It's Second Team Fortress 2 Toy - The Robo Pyro

Following last year's Mann Vs Machine Heavy (Which we actually purchased and will be unboxing as soon as it arrives at our step) Ashley Wood's 3A just teased the next in line for the antagonistic machine treatment, the gender ambiguous Pyro! The 1/6 toys will be making their way to the Bambaland store sometime in the near future, and I'm guessing they'll also run just north of the $200 range.

Considering that 3A did away with their blog for a revamped website called WO3A (World of 3A), you'll probably need to sign up for their newsletter to figure out when this will be hitting their typical preorder system. Time to start saving up again!

Start Saving for Medicom Toy's RAH Evangelion Mark. 09

While I've always been a big fan of the Revoltech set of Evangelion figures, nothing can compare to Medicom Toy's Real Action Hero series of figures. Continuing the Evangelion 3.0 set of figures, EVA Mark. 09 is the newest addition to the family alongside EVA 01 and EVA 02. If you're new to the RAH-scape of figures, they hold the same level of articulation as a Revoltech with a paint and build quality unparalleled. They're truly the cream of the crop when it comes to toys and figures.

Standing at around 40cm tall, Mark. 09 is definitely a beauty, but it's going to set you back a few pennies. The figure will be releasing in 2014 with a sexy price point of 24,000 Yen (Around $250), but for a figure of this quality, it's more than worth it. After the jump are more shots, but if you have yet to see 3.0 there are a few small spoilers so continue at your own peril.

ThreeA Unveils Their Team Fortress 2 Robot Heavy's

(Via)
Oh my god, this is absolutely amazing. In their first collaboration with Ashley Wood's 3A, Valve is bringing us some absolutely incredible looking, fully articulated statues of the evil Robotic Heavy's from their massive coop update from 2012, Mann VS Machine. While people initially speculated that NECA was taking a stab at these considering their take on the Pyro and Demoman, this is a really damn cool surprise, and they even come with light up eyes and boxing gloves if you order it through the Bambaland store. That piece of info probable means that these limited edition ones will be sold via Valve as well.

The 1/6 scale statues will be dropping at some undefined time for the pretty reasonable price of $220 each, especially when compared to some of 3A's other offerings. I'm also going to speculate that these will be bundled with a limited edition unlock for an item that will be worth hundreds, so save up and consider this a worthy investment. These figures will be dropping some time this year for preorder, stay tuned for more updates. Check out a shot of Team Blue after the break.

Original Effect Debuts Original "Killer Instinct" Series of Figures

(via)
Killer Instinct (Not the videogame) is Original Effect's new line of original figures, and to kick things off the Chinese figure company has introduced SAM. Since the figure's original debut (seen after the break), SAM has gone through quite a few changes. The paint job on this figure is absolutely incredible and standing at 1/6 to scale, this is a must have for someone looking for an original figure.

SAM will be up for pre-order on Original Effect's website over here, but for now you can hit the break for a few more looks at this awesome original figure.

3D Printed Final Fantasy VII Characters Are A Beautiful Thing

(via)
3D-printing has already begun to revolutionize production with how easily/inexpensive parts can be made, but let's be honest here if there's anything I'm most excited for it's the custom figure market. Animator and part-time 3D sculptor, Joaquin Baldwin has provided the world a great service with these Final Fantasy VII figures, giving us a chance to experience each character in-person with all their blocky-beauty. It's truly an awesome way to celebrate the awesomeness that was Final Fantasy VII in a way I haven't seen before.

Printed to mimic the in-game avatars, if there was ever a set to complete this would be it. Each figure will run you around $13-$32 (so a pretty penny if you wanna collect them all) but it appears that Baldwin is currently sold out. While we sit here and wait for a restock, you can hit the jump for a close up on some of the figures, I really want me some of that Cait Sith action.

The Secret Story Of Toys

Anthony Lasedich created an incredibly fun, awesomely insightful behind the scenes look at the small group of folks fortunate enough to work as full time toy sculptors and prototypers. The Secret Story Of Toys offers us the perspectives of a few artists in that position, who are also in a state of disbelief as to how cool their job is, as well as a little look into the process that goes into creating a prototype sculpt before production. Just a look at the space that these guys work in, as well as how humble they all are is incredibly inspiring to say the least.

If you look carefully enough you'll also get a chance to see the early prototypes of the upcoming Spy and Engineer toys from Team Fortress 2 as well as some other cool toys. This playful mini-documentary just left me wanting more, and I honestly hope to see Anthony create more behind the scenes looks at these niche industries. Just prepare for some career path regret after watching these artists talk about how lucky they are to have such a fun, laid back job.

Feast Your Eyes On The Most Realistic Bruce Willis Figure Of All Time

(Via)
Admit it, your entire life has lead up to the moment you could own a 1/6 scale figure of Bruce Willis to showcase your deep love for the aging action hero. To celebrate Bruce Willis' role in the upcoming G.I. Joe Retaliation film Hasbro and Hot Toys have released the most realistic Bruce Willis figure to ever exist. The figure features a height of 30 cm, 30 moveable joints, and more accessories than you ever thought you'd need for a Bruce Willis figure (*cough* 6 *cough*) this is definitely something any collector of ridiculous figures will want to look into.

The figure is set to go on sale in the third quarter of 2013, with no price point currently announced. Let's be honest with ourselves though, is there really a price point you wouldn't pay to obtain this beauty? How can you say no to that sexy wrinkled forehead? That's right, you can't. Hit the jump for more images of the upcoming figure.

Bhead's Amazing Custom "Biogeneticist Dr. Paul" Toy

(Via)
Korean concept artist and toy kitbasher extraordinaire Bhead (Jung Yeon Gyun) just unveiled his latest entry to his ongoing Day After WWIII series, featuring a Biogeneticist called 'Dr. Paul' and his equally kitted out monkey sidekick. His backstory for Dr. Paul is that he was a scientist being held against his will in Imperial research labs, working on experiments in genetic engineering and chemical weapons before the apocalyptic WWIII made him a free man once more.

Clad in a retro futuristic containment suit with some mild Fallout vibes, I just love the contrast in materials and attention to detailing that Jung captured with this prototype, down to his sidekick having specially crafted boots for his outfit. If you're unfamiliar with Bhead's work, I'd highly recommend checking out our post on some of his other amazing creations for the series, which have only been released in his home country as limited edition kits. Check out additional eye candy shots of his latest creation right after the break. Here's to hoping that he'll someday make that transition to selling his beauties on an international market.

Capcom and 3A Toys Team Up To Bring Us Lost Planet

(Via)
While I do feel that the gaming community never quite warmed up to Capcom's lukewarm Lost Planet franchise, you can't deny that the game had some really cool scifi designs, like the VS (Vital Suit) mechs and the kitted out mercenaries. As much as I wanted to love the game though, the forgettable story and uninspired gameplay remained an issue in both the first and second installments of the game. Is it too much to ask for to get a scifi version of Monster Hunter? With Lost Planet 3 on the horizon, third times the charm, some say.

Following a few months of teasing, 3A Toys has finally announced the arrival of the 1:6 scale, beautifully detailed Lost Planet mercenary, which will go on sale at the Bambaland Store June 21 for $160. As an owner of one or two of 3A Toys' wallet destroying works of arts, these toys are totally worth every penny for their attention to detail, articulation and quality of materials. Some proto shots from toy fairs abroad also point to a new upcoming Lost Planet toy that will include one of the VS mechs and a 1:12 scale pilot. Check out some more detail shots of the Mercenary after the break!

A Sneak Peek At 3A Toys Incredible Portal 2 Atlas And P-Body Toys

We just recently got some sneak peak images of 3A Toys' upcoming Portal 2 collab with Valve, featuring some absolutely incredible renditions of the sequels cooperative robotic protagonists, Atlas and P-Body. The figures are incredibly detailed, featuring fine details like nicks, scuffs and paint scratches, full articulation and light up optical sensors and portal guns.

The 1/6th scale figures will be up for preorder sometime this May for an as of yet undetermined price, and based off the press release it also seems like these figures might come in a two pack for those with deep pockets. Based off of 3A Toys' historical prices, a fair estimate is that the figures will run aynwhere from $250-400 each, especially considering licensing costs. We can only hope that 3A and Valve will collaborate sometime in the future to also bring us a high end Team Fortress 2 line, because we're not broke enough just yet. Check out a ton more images of the absolutely stunning figures after the break, and start saving up for the preorder announcement!

NECA's Team Fortress 2 Action Figures Review : Pyro And Demoman Are Awesome

We were fortunate enough to get our hands on some of NECA's series 1 Team Fortress 2 toys  and were pretty damn impressed by what we saw. The figures came in two limited edition waves of 10,000 each and were priced at a very reasonable $21.99 a pop: A Team RED edition and Team BLU variant version for the gender-ambiguous Pyro and the Scottish force of nature known as the Demoman.

In terms of the sculpt, the figures are absolutely perfect, delivering a perfect translation of the signature Team Fortress 2 style into an action figure format, all the way down to the tapered down designs (More on that later) and saturation gradient (From top to bottom) present in the in game models textures. Is it wrong to say that I haven't been this excited by action figures in years?

The Disney Mecha-Destroyer : Tamashii Nations Chogokin!

Bandai just recently sent us an updated press release in regards to the absolutely cracked out, yet irresistible concept of turning the most famous Disney characters into a giant Voltron-style robot. Known as Chogokin King Robo : Mickey And Friends (Chogokin is a company well known for it's diecast robot toys), this behemoth of a toy started off it's life online as what many assumed to be a well made knockoff (Like the Thomas The Tank Engine robo) before Bandai confirmed it as an actual product.

The King Robo consists of 6 Disney characters with their own terrain specialty: Jet Mickey, Sky Minnie, Land Goofy, Dive Donald, Aqua Daisy, Dash Pluto & Kennel and Ace Willie. And as weapons of choice? The mecha comes with the Dream Stick and Magical Mirror. All together the entire figure will stand about 220 mm tall (8.7 inches) assembled and run for around ¥11,520 ($131) when it's launched in March. If you're interested, I'd recommend pre-ordering now but I know for a fact that these types of team ups rarely occur, especially considering how selectively protective Disney usually is in regards to their characters. Anyone remember what happened to Runaway Brain, whereas the Kingdom Hearts franchise got a free pass?

Check out the newly released promo video for the mech below, and high res images of all the characters after the break! You can preorder the figure over at HobbyLink Japan.

New Play Arts Kai Nolan 'The Dark Knight' Figure Series

(Via)
I'm a huge Play Arts Kai fan. The figures they produce are well crafted, highly articulated and generally worth the money they ask for. When the company produced prototype displays for the Nolan Batman films at the Tokyo Games Show in September I was pretty excited, and today we get the first look at the pre-order versions of the 8" The Dark Knight Rises Catwoman and The Dark Knight Joker toys.

Both toys come with a number of suitable accessories, including weapons and swappable hands and remain scarily accurate to the likenesses of Ann Hathaway and the late Heath Ledger. You can currently pre-order these figures for $65 a pop, if you're looking to get yourself a late Christmas present. Check out more shots of Catwoman and the Joker after the break.

There You Are! - WETA's Portal Flavored Gift To Valve

It looks like the folks at Valve recently received an interesting little gift from the folks over at New Zealand's WETA Workshop. An awesome, motion tracking Aperture Science Sentry Turret, aka those soft spoken sentries with a deadly touch in the Portal Series. This little video that Valve released showcases the unboxing of the 1:1 scale replica, and some footage of the cute but deadly device in action. When will these be made available to the public?

John Carpenter's The Thing 1982 Toy Promo

Turns out it was way too good to be true. This faux ad for a ' The Thing' toy line perfectly captures the cheesy, but loveable feel of Mattel/Hasbro commercials from the eighties and nineties, when rated R movies typically got toy lines intended for kids under 10. Youtube user Arlox also emulated that entire worn VHS tape look, which perfectly compliments the awesome narration.

The Custom Avengers S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier RC Model

I'm a BIG toy guy. Since the Avengers came out back in May I've wanted the Helicarrier toy, but with the official toy being 46 inches long I decided that my limited storage space couldn't hold such a beast. Seeing that it also couldn't fly (Go figure) I decided against a rather expensive purchase. But Russian YouTube user Native118 decided that the toy was not good enough and took things into his own hands. The man built a fully flying, remote-controlled Helicarrier model with water to air liftoff capabilities.

There are many reasons why this toy will never be released, including price, health & safety or the fact it would be impractical to manufacture but the idea of this amazing custom brings out the jealous 12 year old inside me. Check it out!

Chasing Bones - The Making Of An Urban Vinyl Toy

This awesome little video goes into the making of a limited edition vinyl toy by the UK artist who goes under the name of 'Pahnl.' Pretty interesting to see hwo much work goes into creating a 4" figure, as well as of the tools that the artist uses to go from initial sculpt to mold, and so on. The entire process is presented from a top down perspective, featuring the chill music of Niels Nielsen.
