Portal Prelude Is a Graphing Success

Calculators can be used for many things. The stereotype I have of American highschool math and science students comes down to bored video gamers as I've seen a large amount of games, ranging from Super Mario to Pokemon, emulated on equipment I would have killed for during that thursday morning Maths session. Though playing Pokemon Yellow whilst pretending to type in equations was always a dream of mine, I think this emulated tribute to Portal would be something I would kill for even now.

Portal Prelude, a Portal fan game by Builderboy2005, is being run on a TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus series of graphing calculators. The game, whilst simple, uses many familiar elements that has made the Valve franchise so popular so far. It's mind-blowing what fans can do when they really get bored on a Friday afternoon!

There You Are! - WETA's Portal Flavored Gift To Valve

It looks like the folks at Valve recently received an interesting little gift from the folks over at New Zealand's WETA Workshop. An awesome, motion tracking Aperture Science Sentry Turret, aka those soft spoken sentries with a deadly touch in the Portal Series. This little video that Valve released showcases the unboxing of the 1:1 scale replica, and some footage of the cute but deadly device in action. When will these be made available to the public?

Mari0 : Super Mario Portal Mashup Set To Make Waves

The choice of using 'The Wizard' to advertise this incredible looking mashup was an absolutely genius choice. 'Stabyourself,' a 2 man group consisting of Maurice Guegan and Saso Smolej came up with the concept of crossbreeding Super Mario Brothers and Portal, and executed the idea beautifully. The game is now out for free, so get your hands on it!

And as for additional features, they've also added 4 player coop, 33 hats to customize yourself, a level editor, game modifiers like bullet time, map packs and more. Go nuts.

Portal 2: Talk To Cave Johnson For Only $40

When life gives you lemons? Go out and spend $40 for the rest. Printed on canvas of pine frame comes the next piece of Portal merchandise you need to own.

That's right, Think Geek has done it again. They just released a portrait of Aperture Science's founder & luminary, Cave Johnson from the game Portal 2. Motion sensors embedded into the frame make him speak 13 phrases from the game including the entire "life gives you lemons" rant. And for the people who want to appreciate art, the thing can be turned off. Sometimes advice can be very....human.

The release date hasn't been announced, but the site says mid December. I guess we will see soon enough.

Portal 2 Plush Turret Is A Triumph

I see you....(Via)
Very rarely do we have official merchandise Portal 2 items that the fans can purchase. Most of the time the items are really cool but are made by fans who only create one of a kind style items that usually are sold for exorbitant amounts.

But there is hope on the horizon: ThinkGeek is selling this official, adorable Portal 2 plush turret on their online store! Standing 14 inches tall this turret will quote one of many phrases when someone walks by, is pushed over or is ignored and switches off. I need 18 of the things guarding my items and belongings. It also has a glowing red eye but the site apologizes for the Turret not having dual working machine guns. The doll will set you back $29.99 and will be available mid-December.

Apple's Siri Is Just That Much More Science

Apple recently announced the Siri feature for the new iPhone 4s, which is basically a pretty cool digital voice application. Whilst I imagine it turning out more like this my expansive television and movie watching has taught me one thing; robots are mean, mean creations. So throw in the most mean and evil robot of all time, GLaDOS from Portal 1/2, and you have a parody video that made me chuckle but feel bad for gaining a beer gut. Self esteem? Gone. But my iPhone? Never looked better!

Entire Portal 2 Soundtrack Available. For Free.

Portal 2: Game & Soundtrack of the year. (Via)
Valve, being the company who give and give recently announced free Portal 2 Multiplayer DLC for all three consoles. This includes both single and multiplayer maps. But something I've mentioned before is the soundtrack that has been released through small releases over the last few months. It's been released in full and you can download all 64 songs here. That's thinking with Portals.

But in true Valve style they like giving context for many things. So of course there might be a little extra for you readers out there....

Portal is free (Until September 20th)

Now you're thinking with science! (Via)
As part of Valve’s Learn With Portals initiative, which aims to promote Portal’s reality bending puzzles as an educational tool, Valve have released the Steam version of Portal for free. You have until the 20th of September, so it's not on for long! You also no longer have an excuse for not playing this game.

We Want To Play Mario Portal

Oh man...Turns out that this is an actual project in development. Its not a clever parody, but an actual full game modification of Mario with a completely functional Portal gun. The creator, Jason Kottke plans to include multiplayer, a unique narrative for Mario Portal, and to release the source code for free so he doesn't get annihilated by Nintendo lawyers. Just from seeing him demo the possibilities, its pretty damn exciting to watch. Can't wait till this gets released.

Wish I Had A Portal Gun

Dorkly really outdid themselves this time, creating a Lonely Island worthy Portal rap track that will most likely get a few million views before being run into the ground by people quoting it for the next decade as if it never gets old. We're looking at you, "Still Alive" performers. That aside,  not only is this song insanely catchy, the lyrics are absolutely brilliant to boot as well.

Valve Should Mass Produce This Portal 2 Figure

(Via)
This Portal doll is amazing. It's a 1/6 custom toy of Chell, and comes with the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. Less thinking with science and more of trying to get Chell with Ken: I hear the two are an item.

The Real Life Portal Turret You Could Have Owned

The search for the ultimate fan made object is over. Prepare yourself, because you may just fall in love. This life sized Portal turret, made by Ryan Palser, includes soundbites from the game and the Portal theme song. Gears of War mastermind, Cliff Bleszinski, already tweeted about how he bought one of only two units ever made.

One day I'll be that rich. Or maybe we'll get one for the Awesome-Robo studios. You wouldn't want to mess with us then.

Portal 2: GlaDOS surprise

Even GlaDOS can't help fall in love with certain Meme's, and using them for torturing Chell. Though, this better make a bonus level on multiplayer/dlc, I would play the sh** out of it.

Portal 2 Gun Replica Is Amazing And Beautiful

(Via)
Some people would be happy having built a replica of the Portal gun. Not Harrison Krix, who decided to take his Portal gun, and recreate it to look like the Gun from Portal 2, including a potato replica of GLaDOS, killer birds not included. You can check it out here, but I have chosen a selection of the images for your taste buds after the jump.

Makes me want to get creative. Darn my lack of energy, I would make a terrible test subject.

Portal 2 As A Awesome Movie Poster

I'm playing through Portal 2 for a third time whilst I'm waiting for the PSN to come back up. I saw this poster and loved it because it combined my love of classic 80's films and really good video games. I hope they'll release this as a print soon!

Custom Made Portal Turret Will Melt Your Heart Before Shooting Your Body

I loved Portal 2, the game was worth every penny I had. This custom made Turret cuddly toy reacts just like an in-game turret would because it has fancy motion-sensing capabilities. Though no warning laser, but this still is the cutest thing I've ever seen.
It won't defend your baby, though. Or shoot bullets.

Portal 2 ARG: For Science

I'm currently playing through Portal 2. Amazing game, and the viral campaign before release was so much fun. But is there more Portal 2 coming our way? It looks like the answer is yes, and I'll be in the front row. You know, for science.
