The Birth of Captain Murphy

Oh. Hell. Yeah. It's a terrific time to be a Flying Lotus fan right now. Following on the heels of his macabre collaboration project with Shintaro Kago, the fine folks at Adult Swim have released the first in a short video series documenting the origins of Lotus' malevolent rap alter-ego; Captain Murphy. And voiced by Snoop Dogg no less!

Captain Murphy's first mixtape Duality was one of my favorite rap projects of 2012. His menacingly pitch-shifted vocals, mischievously graphic lyricism and psychedelic sound production made for one of the most unique experiences I've heard since Madlib's Quasimoto. With Murphy making an appearance on You're Dead! this October and rumblings of a follow-up brewing in the background, consider this teaser a small taste of things to come.

Kool AD - "Word" (NSFW)

Former Das Racist rapper Kool A.D. has been at it with music video releases from his 'Word O.K.' mistape, but out of all three of them - Open Letter, Tight and I'm On A Plane, I believe that his newest Word music video takes the cake out the bunch.

Imagining himself as a stoner cartoon dog in a bizarre flat dimension, Kool hallucinates, gets dirty with a whole slew of weird groupies, engages in a shootout with a skeleton policeman and trips his way to hell and back in this absolutely unhinged animated music video directed by Kool and Teddy Vasquez. If you've ever enjoyed shows like Adult Swim's wild SuperJail, this'll be right up your alley.

KOOL A.D. - "Moneyball"

Former Das Racist member and NY based wordsmith Kool A.D. presents himself as a the king of an eclectic utopia, while dropping masterfully forged contrasting verses on his thoughts about life, society and consumerism. Moneyball is from his latest mixtapes, dubbed '63,' an ode to one of his favorite bus lines while growing up in the bay area. Keep an eye out on Kool A.D., he's been killing it as of late.

Hoodie Allen - "Cake Boy"

Hoodie Allen returns following the smashing success of his All American album, one that could be equated to the power of social media to bring underground rappers to the light. Since posting his somewhat hilarious 'James Franco' music video sometime in 2011, we've been hooked on the rappers special formula of light hearted lyrics and a definite appreciation towards his fans. As a thank you for the overwhelming support he received on his album, he's been working round the clock to deliver a free album to fans, dubbed Crew Cuts (February 20 release).

Cake Boy is the first single off the album, an audacious track about having your cake and eating it too produced by renown producer !llmind (Kanye West, 50 Cent). Prepare for a large dose of kaleidoscopic cake montages and cutoff jeans.

DMX Gets Us Ready For The Holidays

Arguably the worst part about the holidays is the over-saturation of Christmas music. It's nice in some instances, but being held down and audibly raped in nearly every store you enter gets a little over cumbersome. DMX has taken it upon himself to cleanse the sins of Christmas music and provide one of, if not THE best rendition of Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer of all time. All I want for Christmas is an entire album sung by DMX.

Lushlife - Magnolia

Courtesy of the Philly based rapper/producer Lushlife, 'Magnolia' has a pleasantly euphoric, upbeat sound about it. And I'd really like to commend the directors, Lamar+Nik for making the played out lyric video exciting again, using a dizzying array of extras with cardboard cutouts of the individual lyrics to create a beautiful collage of words and locales. The amount of effort this probably took to create absolutely paid off, in my opinion. The track is from Lushlife's enjoyable 2012 album, Plateau Vision.

True Vulture - Death Grips

Ever watch a video and after the fact ask yourself, 'What the f*** was that?' Well, this fine collaboration between the Sacramento rapper Death Grips and animator Galen Pehrson accomplished that effect, and then some. With a visual style reminiscent of a cracked out Ub Iwerks toon, the video is an onslaught of bizarre, ever transforming imagery as the vessel of MC Burnett's lyrical prowess travels through the cosmos.

Three Loco - We Are Farmers (Feat. Diplo)

This mind blowing collab between Riff Raff, Andy Milonakis (The kid who never grew up) and Dirt Nasty quite possibly features the first commercial sample: The State Farm insurance jingle as the foundation of this ridiculous, fun track. The video has already been taken down on Youtube multiple times, probably due to the fact that State Farm has absolutely no sense of humor. Nonetheless it's an undeniably catchy, 'so bad it's good' track featuring Diplo's rap debut on a handset TV. So random, yet so awesome.

Shabazz Palaces: Black Up

Seattle rap group Shabazz Palaces seriously put together one hell of an interesting video with 'Black Up,' a strange and psychedelic mashup of songs intertwined with some truly striking, incredible imagery. Its a dazzling collage of  visuals, sounds and locations that definitely left an impression. Enjoy the trip.

Lunchables Just Got Hard (NSFW)

Well, I certainly don't remember anything like this in the 90's, but it's possible I hid it deep within my memories. Either way, YouTube mastermind, MikeDiva has once again impressed me. I've been posting quite a few NSFW work pieces lately, so if you're at work I apologize, but this is definitely slightly NSFW.

Wish I Had A Portal Gun

Dorkly really outdid themselves this time, creating a Lonely Island worthy Portal rap track that will most likely get a few million views before being run into the ground by people quoting it for the next decade as if it never gets old. We're looking at you, "Still Alive" performers. That aside,  not only is this song insanely catchy, the lyrics are absolutely brilliant to boot as well.

Pre-Order Tyler, The Creator's new album "GOBLIN"

As it was announced through this site (and with a preview of Tron Cat) we were given a release date for Odd Future head honcho, Tyler, The Creator's new album on XL Recordings. It wasn't too long after that that Tyler went on to Twitter to confirm a preliminary track list.

While searching the Beggar's Group online store I came across the pre-order for Goblin. As expected Tyler's second album will be released on CD and Double LP. There also will be a Deluxe CD which will come with alternate artwork, poster, and three additional tracks. No word if these tracks will appear on the vinyl or not (although none will feature Odd Future's missing man Earl Sweatshirt.)

Hip-Hop Making It's Mainstream Return (NSFW video)

Over the past 10 years, mainstream Hip-Hop has degenerated into the retarded step-child of what it once was. Instead of creating music from life experiences, fun times, and ill rhymes, it has become a race to see who could feature the most artists, show off the most money, and rhyme the word truck with another truck (that rhyme is fresh, son). It's f***ing stupid. What was worse, is that that these mainstream artists began to believe that they were the best of Hip-Hop (I'm looking at you Lil' Wayne).

While I can't deny the catchiness of the music, it isn't Hip-Hop it's over-hyped Pop music with enough auto-tune to give a robot an erection. Yes, this same rant has been made for years and years, but there happens to be a light at the end of the tunnel. It seems the music industry is finally starting to recognize the artists that have stuck with classic Hip-Hop. With the recent mainstream interest in Odd Future and Childish Gambino, there's still hope! Now it's up to you, listener, to prove that this style of Hip-Hop is still a valid form of mainstream music.

With that aside, the new Childish Gambino video above is freakin' rad.

Sony's Archnemsis Mocks With Phat Beats

Getting sued by Sony for releasing a master code? Follow GeoHot's style and make fun of them with a minute of subpar hip hop verses. Go ahead, try it.
While the entire ordeal between Sony and GeoHot has lost it's appeal, I applaud GeoHot for mocking the faceless giant while continuing to provide the master code (a code that I won't provide here, thank you very much). If only all legal suits were this entertaining.

Pale Kid Raps INSANELY Fast

This just popped up on Youtube.  This kid raps so damn fast its absolutely impressive, you can tell this isn't sped up thanks to the rather chill cat in the back.  I predict a viral video, a record deal and a stint in rehab.
