The Dilla Dimension

You'll be hard-pressed to find a producer more ubiquitously applauded and dissected than that of the late J Dilla. A formidable beat-maker whose production has been the bedrock of some of hip-hop's most venerated albums and artists, the man affectionately known by his fans and loved ones as Jay Dee passed away in 2006 on the eve of Donuts', his most successful album, release.

The shadow of his influence still hangs heavy and low over the face of contemporary music even nine years since his passing, which is why CGI-studio Cartelle Interactive has created this interactive browser film to commemorate Dilla's last record by transforming it into a kaleidoscopic tunnel-trip through a outer-spacial odyssey of confectionery oddities.

The Dilla Dimension is an interactive, short film that tells the story of two sugarcoated souls and their psychedelic journey through outer space. Each step of their voyage is crafted to a selection of tracks from J Dilla’s classic album, Donuts.

An alternate universe, blanketed with hypercolor sugar and fluorescent glaze, gives birth to an unlikely cluster of donut holes. Suddenly, they are split apart and scattered across a sea of hypnotic, interstellar chaos. But the impossible takes shape when a love is sparked, leading to a desperate search across the universe for one another.

Aesop Rock - Cat Food EP

New-York rhyme-spitter Aesop Rock is one of the most lyrically-gymnastic and stylistically divisive rappers I have ever listened to. Where some hear intricately woven rhyme schemes worthy of diving into a thesaurus, other's hear contrived garbled nonsense. Personally, I've been a persistent fan of his work dating all the back to releases such as Float, Labor Days and the Daylight EP, so the surprise release of this EP was nothing short of exciting.

Featuring production by long-time collaborator Blockhead and cover art courtesy of concept artist Justin "El Coro" Kaufman, Catfood is a solid two-track release chock-full of awesome lines for hip-hop heads to ruminate over. Check the tracks "Catfood" and "Bug Zapper" below.

Deltron 3030 ft. Mike Patton - "City Rising from the Ashes"

For those of you familiar with the work of the Gorillaz, the name Deltron 3030 might ring a bell, and rightfully so. The hip hop group, comprised of producer Dan the Automator, Kid Koala and Del the Funky Homosapien came into prominence in 2000 with their titular debut album and have been working on the followup for 13 years now. This latest track, taken from the upcoming 'Deltron Event II' takes on a highly narrative form like the predecessor album, portraying the various journeys that Deltron sets out on.

Deltron portrays himself in a similar way to Osiris, the Egyptian god and Ruler of the Underworld. Unlike other pagan religions, Osiris was widely respected as a benevolent Pharaoh god and the personification of 'Life After Death,' and was even known as 'He Who is Permanently Benign and Youthful.'

Tyler The Creator : IFHY (NSFW)

IFHY is one of the best videos that Tyler's put out in recent memory, a track built around his inner emotions in regards to relationships. Featuring Tyler as a plastic doll inhabiting a doll house and dealing with the ups and downs of staying with his love, there's a poignant message here about Tyler's inner feelings and his hard exteror, as evidenced by the jarring track transition towards the end to his other track, Jamba. We're given a taste of the inner Tyler before seeing it rudely jerked away, and crushed under the wheels of a car.

Wolf by Mark Ryden

Tyler The Creator's recent musical endeavor impressed Kanye West so much that he stripped his website and replaced it with the Odd Future frontman's music video instead. I kid you not, that's quite an epic tip of the hat. The track is from Tyler The Creator's upcoming Wolf album, which comes out today via Odd Future Records.

Udada & Elito - Hiphopunk

Even if you don't understand the lingual crossover goodness of the Franco/Japanese duo of Udada & Eito, you might appreciate the hundreds of winks to just about every pop culture franchise spanning the East & West in this loaded music video. Presented in an awesomely simple transition style, prepare yourself for a journey across a few hundred franchises, from Iron Man to Dragonball to Saint Seiya and beyond. If you can name every single franchise featured in this awesome video, consider yourself an internet god.

Die Antwoord - Fatty Boom Boom (NSFW)

Die Antwoord are officially the masters of 'WTF' musical videos, although at this point it shouldn't really come as a surprise. Fatty Boom Boom comes off the the groups Ten$Ion album from earlier this year, but this music video really couldn't have come at a better time. There's something about Die Antwoord that's infinitely catchy, even if the lyrics come off as a bit ridiculous (and often times nonsensical, I might have to make this a Zef-filled winter.

Kingdom Crumbs - Evoking Spirits

Chill beat? Check. Awesome hip-hop? Check. Amazing Animation? Double Check. I'm always on the lookout for new artists, and when I find one from my own backyard I'm always excited. This newest video for the experimental Seattle hip-hop group Kingdom Crumbs is damn awesome and really emphasizes on the groups style. Mix in some mighty chill beats and an awesome MC, and you've got one hell of a product. Seriously, If equalizers were more like this I'd lose all my free time.

Danny Brown : Jay Dee's Revenge

This official music video was created for the late, but excellent J Dilla, the record producer who rose up from the underground hip hop scene in Detroit to work with acts including Busta Ryhmes, Common, Ghostface Killah, Slum Village and a plethora of others over the course of his career. The track will be released with J Dilla's upcoming posthumous album, called 'Rebirth Of Detroit,' out June 2012.

Krispy Kreme - The Baddest

Sometimes a YouTube video comes around thats so goddamn amazing, it instantly becomes a classic. YouTube artist Krispy Kreme brings us one of those videos with The Baddest. Since my discovery of the genius that is Krispy Kreme, I've rewatched this video at least 10 times. The level of lyricism is incredible and each listen gives me something new to chew on. With lines like "I'll light your fart on fire with my rhymes", it's going to be really hard to top this song.

Left Boy : Outro

Left Boy's new track is a personal dedication to all the haters out there, a 4 minute message about how nothing is going to get in the way of him reaching his goals. Inspiring stuff, delivered in his distinct electro/hip hop style with some pretty colorful visuals and copious amount of slow mo footage. The one second shot of the girl snorting coke cut with a Magic The Gathering card at 2:45 is pure visual gold.

God Has Learned How To Keep Up With That New Fangled Rap Thang

Keeping up with the times is tough when you know all instances of time, it gets a bit confusing. Luckily, God has understood what the "new thang" is and has endowed this talented young man with the the ability to bust some sick rhymes in the least awkward way possible. The dance at 1:33 seals the deal of just how understanding God and this fine young man are with this new thang, I can feel the power flow through his sick rhymes. I look forward to his inevitable dubstep debut.

James Pants Remixes Tyler, The Creator's "Seven"

With about a month left until Tyler, The Creator's second full length, Goblin, James Pants drops this remix of the song "Seven" off of Tyler's debut album, Bastard. The two are fans of each other, so the remix seemed only natural considering the internet is all over Tyler and Odd Future at the moment. And so am I. (Via)

Pre-Order Tyler, The Creator's new album "GOBLIN"

As it was announced through this site (and with a preview of Tron Cat) we were given a release date for Odd Future head honcho, Tyler, The Creator's new album on XL Recordings. It wasn't too long after that that Tyler went on to Twitter to confirm a preliminary track list.

While searching the Beggar's Group online store I came across the pre-order for Goblin. As expected Tyler's second album will be released on CD and Double LP. There also will be a Deluxe CD which will come with alternate artwork, poster, and three additional tracks. No word if these tracks will appear on the vinyl or not (although none will feature Odd Future's missing man Earl Sweatshirt.)

Hip-Hop Making It's Mainstream Return (NSFW video)

Over the past 10 years, mainstream Hip-Hop has degenerated into the retarded step-child of what it once was. Instead of creating music from life experiences, fun times, and ill rhymes, it has become a race to see who could feature the most artists, show off the most money, and rhyme the word truck with another truck (that rhyme is fresh, son). It's f***ing stupid. What was worse, is that that these mainstream artists began to believe that they were the best of Hip-Hop (I'm looking at you Lil' Wayne).

While I can't deny the catchiness of the music, it isn't Hip-Hop it's over-hyped Pop music with enough auto-tune to give a robot an erection. Yes, this same rant has been made for years and years, but there happens to be a light at the end of the tunnel. It seems the music industry is finally starting to recognize the artists that have stuck with classic Hip-Hop. With the recent mainstream interest in Odd Future and Childish Gambino, there's still hope! Now it's up to you, listener, to prove that this style of Hip-Hop is still a valid form of mainstream music.

With that aside, the new Childish Gambino video above is freakin' rad.
