Guillermo Del Toro Presents "The Strain"

Following an impressive pilot, the decision was made to expand Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan's The Strain into a full season, finally bringing Guillermo's original vision for this franchise to reality. While Del Toro had originally envisioned this vampire horror series as a TV his initial attempts to find a party interested were unsuccessful, resulting in novelizations and comic book adaptations between 2009-2011 that eventually piqued the interest of FX.

The Strain offers an unorthodox take on vampire mythos, treating the symptoms of vampirism as a contagious, parasitic virus that originates on a Boeing 777 and ultimately spills out into the streets of New York. And these vampires are nothing like what we're accustomed to, with giant retractable stingers reminiscent of the Plaga monsters from the later Resident Evil installments. Following rave reviews of the pilot, which was directed by Del Toro the series was expanded into a full 13 episode season that will premiere July 13 on FX. Something to look forward to.

The Strain is a thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

The Simpsons Enter A Lego Dimension In "Brick Like Me"

Even though I probably haven't watched The Simpsons in over a decade now, they've been making the right moves lately to capture a new audience. A promo for an upcoming episode called Brick Like Me draws some interesting parallels to The Lego Movie, both featuring characters existing in two realities. After waking up in a Lego form, the family begins to realize that something might be off with this brick reality. For any of our readers who still happen to have cable, the episode will premiere tomorrow at 8/7 central. The overlords at Lego continue to spread their brick agenda through every multimedia facet imaginable, but honestly we don't mind.

Every On-Screen Death In Game Of Thrones, In Under 3 Minutes

With Season four of Game Of Thrones finally rearing it's ugly head this Sunday, the folks at Digg (Who knew they were still around?) put together a body count compilation showcasing the staggering amount of deaths from the first three seasons. Accompanied by Dick Van Dyke's Put On A Happy Face, these many violent kills are slightly less gut wrenching as they were in the context of the show. Following the finale of the last season, memorable as it was for making people around me feel physically ill, I'm feeling a little apprehensive about what this new season might have in store for us. Potential spoilers for folks who haven't watched the show, so tread lightly.

Game Of Thrones Behind The Scenes Featurette: Season 4

Half a year of filming, 30 new characters, two crews shooting parallel called 'Dragon' and 'Wolf' and a healthy amount of on location filming in locales including Northern Ireland, Iceland and Croatia: These are the ingredients for the upcoming 4th season of HBO's epic Game of Thrones. This behind the scenes featurette goes into the amazing amount of work that goes into the production of such an epic show.

In an era dominated by green screen everything, seeing the crews do so much work to capture that certain 'practical' feel makes me appreciate the show that much more.

"Black Sails" Intro - Pirates, Pirates, Pirates

Just recently found out that the Starz Network is throwing their hat into the high budget TV show ring with their upcoming Black Sails, which will hopefully give the under-appreciated pirate genre some love. The folks at Imaginary Forces put together an awesome intro for the show, a stunning display of ornate ivory carvings from the period and figureheads, the statues placed on the front of boats that were once regarded as the spirit of a ship, used to placate the temperamental gods of the sea. I'm personally a little burnt out on the often retread themes of shows these days, so a showed based on the golden age of piracy actually stands out in a really good way. The show will be premiering on the 25th of January, keeping my fingers crossed that it'll be great.

Game Of Thrones Gets A Season 4 Trailer

Obnoxious child kings, more protagonists and plots than your brain can keep track of, dragons, copious amounts of sex, White Walkers and a healthy dose of cloak and dagger moments and betrayals: That is the current recipe for a healthy season of Game of Thrones.

Following the very controversial last season, which featured one of the cruelest moments I've possibly ever seen on a TV show (I think most people would agree with me on this one), it seems like Season 4 is finally rearing it's head. The new season will be premiering on April 6th, and I'm kind of hoping HBO Go will finally get around to announcing their long rumored standalone plan for their service.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Project

It all started out as a mild curiosity in the junkyard, and now it's turned out to be quite a great spirit of adventure. This quote by the first doctor from the now internationally famous Dr Who series inspired Chang Dai to create this awesome tribute for the 50th anniversary of the series, featuring a handful of the doctors that have come and gone over the years. Visual Bites - H-Man, Sting, Coven, Sunset

We run into plenty of awesome content that might be too short to warrant a full dedicate post, so we'll be using the 'Visual Bites' monicker to promote these bite sized visual treats from artists around the world. Animation loops, quick shorts and experimentation will be the main focus in this ongoing series.

H-Man is the opening for an upcoming live action series premiering on the artist centered channel 'Arte.' The series was created by Miyu Productions, channeling a vintage animation style that feels a little Monty Python in parts. More visual bites after the break.

The Walking Dead - A Decade Of The Dead

Created as a collab between Hyundai, Future US, Skybound and Initiative, this awesome documentary chronicles the rise of the zombie themed comic into prominence. It's amazing considering it's humble beginnings in 2003 from the mind of writer Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore as a 'bait and switch pitch' through Image comics, tapping into the zombie fad close to a decade before it started.

Fast forward to 2013 and it's a hit mainstream TV series on AMC with a continuing comic storyline powered by the art talentes of British artist Charlie Adlard and Cliff Rathburn. It's one of those rare cases of everyone involved believing in an indie comic project and seeing it through until that lucky break hurtling it into the public spotlight. I also tend use it as my favorite example of how hyper violence is ok but tasteful nudity isn't on TV.

Back To The Future And Knight Rider Go Hand In Hand

Youtube user TheMoeFwacky created an awesome mashup of the Knight Rider theme with Back to the Future visuals- and it's a strangely perfect marriage. Sure, there's no Hasselhoff, but I would have taken time travel, DeLorean's and KITT over him any day of the week. Short and sweet.

Legend Of Korra - Book 2 Trailer

As part of the upcoming barrage of new reveals that this year's San Diego Comic Con is unleashing on us, the Legend Of Korra panel revealed some juicy new details about the second season, including this moody new trailer, offering us a taste of some of the challenges Korra and friends will face starting this September.

The most noteworthy plot point for the second season will come in the form of the recently announced origin story of the very first Avatar, Wan, who will be voiced by the Steven Yeun of The Walking Dead fame. Is it just me or does this franchise keep looking better with each passing season? The first season of Korra had some amazing animation and all, but it already looks like the bar is being set even higher for this upcoming season.

Xbox One Reveal In A Nutshell

The internet was close to exploding yesterday after Microsoft's announcement of the Xbox One, mostly due to the fact the complete lack of games. While Sony's Playstation 4 reveal was still far from steller, the announcement still focused on what many still buy video game consoles for; video games. The interface for the Xbox One is definitely pretty awesome, but the sheer lack of anything other than TV, Sports, and Call of Duty during the the reveal was a bit of a disappointment. Almost Human Trailer - Robots, Cops And More

J.J. Abrams has definitely kept himself busy in recent times, juggling responsibilities directing and producing properties including Fringe, Revolution, Star Trek, the upcoming Star Wars reboot and more. His latest pilot project is Almost Human, a rather refreshing looking TV show created by J.H. Wyman (Fringe) via Bad Robot Productions with Abrams on board as an executive producer.

The series is set 35 years in the future and follows the story of cop/robot hater John Kennex (Karl Urban) waking up from a coma only to find out that robotic partners are mandatory in 2048's equivalent of the LAPD. While dealing with a slew of personal issues and cyborg prosthetics as the result of the events that nearly killed him, Kennex has to learn to get along with his new 'synthetic' partner Dorian (Michael Ealy), an android outfitted with emotions. With it's high budget look and interesting premise, this might just be one of those shows to look forward to this year.

Game Of Thrones : Every Swear From Every Season

Edited by the folks over at the Slacktory collective, Game Of F***s is a rather fascinating compilation of over 20 hours of immaculately crafted television compressed down into 2 minutes of swearing. Who knew Kaleesi had such a dirty mouth? The video came complete with a pie chart breaking down the percentage of swearing from each of the series' colorful protagonists, which you can peruse after the break.

Game Of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead: 1995 Style

A few YouTubers have been having fun taking modern shows and thrusting their intros back into the past, the cheesy era of the mid nineties where big budget good TV shows were equatable with the likes of Xena, Hercules and...Fresh Prince? The advent of cinematic TV series didn't quite rear their heads till the last few years, and I shudder at what we used to be subjected to.

From the fonts to the choice of music to the VHS warping, these tributes are a perfect emulation of the trends of the times. Check out the hilariously upbeat Breaking Bad and Walking Dead intros after the break.

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome

Even before it originally aired, the Battlestar Galactica reboot was surrounded by an air of skepticism, questioning why such an obscure series would even get a second chance. Although I was never a fan of it, the original 1978 scifi series had gained a full cult following over the years, despite the fact that most considered it as a much cheesier knockoff of the Star Wars franchise that predated it. To forever dispel that reputation, the series was given a gritty reboot in 2004 that through it's excellent writing and Cylon filled premise revitalized the series as a scifi staple. The show has gained many fans through TV movies and prequels that have come from the success of the reboot; This is one such prequel.

Set in the tenth year of the First Cylon War, this prequel was originally intended to be part of a full ongoing TV series but never quite made the cut, instead being converted into a 10 part digital series on Machinima, with plans to cut all the episodes into a full length TV movie sometime in 2013. A Sarcastic Farewell To Community? Possibly.

Community is one of the great, underrated comedies on television. With all the drama behind the scenes with production, it's lucky this series managed to get a season four, though it seems the drama hasn't ended just yet. This trailer stars the crew of the show and features Troy and Abed doing their best to explain the reasoning behind the missed air-date for the upcoming season premiere of Community. Quite possibly one of the biggest blunders NBC has made in recent memory.

The show, which was meant to premier on the 19th of October, got delayed for no particular reason and has been put on permanent hiatus. Whilst satirical (with some harsh words towards NBC) and amusing it relays a depressing truth; don't get your hopes up for any more Community episodes in the near future.

Tron: Uprising Concept Art Is Just As Amazing As The Show

Honestly? Tron: Uprising is the greatest show you aren't watching. Currently airing on Disney XD (or through iTunes downloads like me) the show takes the visuals and music from Tron: Legacy, the 2010 sequel to the cult classic Tron, and gaps the bridge between the two. It's a half hour per week revolving around Tron with the music of Daft Punk, and it's pretty breathtakingly good. We've posted trailers and hyped up the project, but it's not doing well in the viewing figures which is a shame, so I thought I would remind people this program exists and needs to be viewed, especially by the Tron Legacy fans who have no clue it's airing.

Concept artist Darren Bacon has released concepts and background paintings he created for Tron: Uprising and it gives you a glimpse of the world that you are missing, and it's pretty breathtaking as art to look at. Take a glimpse after the break!

Arrow Trailer: The Green Arrow TV Show Doesn't Look So Bad

Poor Green Arrow. The new 52 reboot really tried to make the character hip and young, based on his appearance on the "Superman" TV Show Smallville. The Oliver Queen I knew was a left-wing vigilante with social conscience, not some rich young kid in a Green hood. When I first heard about the TV show I was very fearful they would take the character down a similar route but as it seems the writers have actually done some research.

The trailer had references to the original comics, mainly Green Arrow: Year One, written by Andy Diggle. The story has the origin of Green Arrow which involves Oliver Queen, a frivolous playboy and a thrill-seeking activist, being betrayed and marooned on a deserted jungle island. DC have made some pretty poor adaptations for television before, though this one has certainly peaked my interests.

Community is Back!

Community is a show you deserve to watch. If you haven't started watching it I highly suggest it; the show is pretty much the Big Bang Theory, minus sucking ass and lacking an iota of humor. If you haven't watched it, the series revolves around a group of students in a community college. The show, which heavily uses meta-humor and pop culture references by parodying films and television clichés and tropes, is one of the greatest new shows I've seen in years. I was apprehensive before I watched it, but after checking out that first episode I haven't looked back.

For the other 4 people who watch it please enjoy this trailer for the second half of Season 3 and remember; the show is in a large amount of danger of being cancelled! Tune in and and enjoy, and maybe the show can enjoy some international syndication so I can watch it without feeling so guilty.
