Kepler's "Exoplanet Travel Bureau" Beckons Us To Vacation Among The Stars

A New Life Awaits You in The Off-World Colonies! Or at least, that's what these posters would lead you to believe. Nasa's been going through something of a boon lately, what with the announcement that the number of discovered exoplanets orbiting the habitable zone of neighboring stars now number in the thousands! That means there are just over 1,000 possible Earths out there...if we could only reach them.

To commerate the occasion, a group of artists at the Kepler astronomical labortory have released three stunning vintage-styled travel posters inspired by the "Visit America" Tourist campaign. Just looking at these makes me want to hop a ride on an orbital elevator and take a connecting flight from Olympus Mons straight on for the stars. Check out the rest of the posters after the break!

Meder Taab's 'Legend Of Korra' Art Is Drop-Dead Gorgeous

(via)
The Legend of Korra is hands-down one of the most thoroughly satisfying animes I've watched in recent memory. Korra, much like its predecessor Avatar: The Last Airbender, is one of those few miraculous animated shows manages to deftly tackle emotionally difficult and complex ideas in a way that feels both nuanced and easily-accessible.

Institutionalized prejudice? Egalitarian fascism? Depression and the struggle to define a self-identity? If Korra was only meant to be a cartoon show, its creators sure haven't been acting like it. That's why fan-art for the series, like Meder Taab's amazing countdown posters for the final season, get me so excited. Pieces like these make me appreciate Legend of Korra so much more, not just for what it is for but also for what it's capable of being.

A fun-loving, sci-fi fantasy martial arts romp with endearing characters, brilliantly choreographed fight scenes, thought-provoking villains, and revelatory meditations on life, identity, and self-acceptance if you'd only look beneath the surface. I'll be sad to see it end.

Check out the rest of Taab's series after the break, and if you haven't already, go give A:TLAB and TLOK a watch-through! You won't be disappointed.

Pacific Rim's Exclusive Limited Edition Posters

The hype continues to grow as Guillermo Del Toro's Kaiju/Mecha rock 'em sock 'em feature premiere draws nearer, the promotional, limited edition posters have begun to emerge with two amazing prints being premiered for IMAX theaters and Odd City Entertainment. The above poster is by LA artist Sergio Grisanti, which will be offered in select theaters to people who attend first showings of Pacific Rim in IMAX 3D. Check out this official list here to see if your local theater is participating in the promotion when the movie comes out July 12th.

The second poster is my preferred one for it's understated tone and retro monster flick sensibilities, created by Grzegorz Domaradzki (Gabz) for the collectors club Odd City (Similar to Mondo), which will be premiering July 2nd as part of a limited release of standard, wood, metal and gold foil variant prints.

This is actually the first time I had an opportunity to work on something this big, so I was both excited and slightly overwhelmed at the beginning. Until now, I had worked on movies with plenty of references to be found on the Internet. In this case, I was mainly limited to the first teaser trailer that came out (pretty mind blowing by the way).

I focused on Gipsy Danger, but instead of putting him in some type of massive sea battle, which was quite tempting, I proposed something inspired by World War 2 propaganda posters; something where the giant robot symbolizes the last stand of humanity. To better show the scale of the threat, I added a glimpse of the giant Kaiju hidden in the skyline. I’m pleased with the outcome and particularly with my version of the poster title, clearly inspired by Japanese apocalyptic cinema posters.”

Movie Hipster Kits By Alizée Lafon

(Via)
French filmmaker and graphic designer Alizée Lafon created this delightful series of posters, deconstructing movies into their most iconic accessories, presented in a manner reminiscent of men's fashion magazine style guides, and vintage ones at that.

These minimalist posters were inspired by movies with cult followings: Vintage 007 movies, the Cohen brothers most memorable piece: The Big Lebowski, the works of W.S. Anderson like Moonrise Kingdom and of course, Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction. Check out the rest of her amazing posters after the break, and don't forget to pick up a print over on her Curioos storefront!

Movie Travel Posters By Studio Muti

(Via)
The Cape Town based illustration collective called MUTI (Clinton Campbell, Miné Jonker and Brad Hodgskiss) collaborated with South Africa's leading cinema house to create a series of vacation posters for 4 iconic movies: namely King Kong, The Shining, Avatar and Lord of the Rings.

The colorful posters beckon to the wonders of locales like Skull Island, Minas Tirith, Pandora and the surreal Overlook Hotel in a deceivingly colorful mid-century poster style that would really make these locations seem appealing to the uninformed. Steve Thomas' Wizard of Oz Travel Posters

(Via)
I've said it a million of times, but I'll say it again: I absolutely adore the Wizard of Oz story and anything to do with it.  Illustrator Steve Thomas created these super awesome travel posters in homage to the story of Dorothy and her journey over the rainbow.  Clearly a nod specifically to the 1939 MGM film starring Judy Garland (as, say, opposed to the several other reincarnations), we're taken from drab Kansas to the bright lands of Munchkin City and, of course, The Emerald City.  Mr. Thomas is taking pre-orders on his site right now, don't miss out!

Sharp Suits - Clever Posters About Freelancing

(Via)
Created by Ireland's creative community, these amazing posters were created by a slew of different (frustrated) artists to illustrate the type of horror stories that freelance artists have to deal with on a regular basis. Put yourself in their shoes, if you've spent two all nighters cranking out a series of illustrations based off a brief to only be told, 'Make it cooler,' you'd be pretty miffed.

The biggest problem that creatives always mention is a lack of constructive feedback, too much feedback or plain out nonsensical feedback, whch is brilliantly illustrated via these interpretations of actual quotes from clients regarding assignments. Check out a slew more of these clever posters after the break, and a ton more on their website!

The Walking Dead Minimalist Posters

(Via)
If you've been following AMC's critically acclaimed zombie drama based off of the equally excellent comics, you might be interested in picking up one of these awesomely minimalist posters created by the Toronto based artist, Ryan McArthur. In his five piece series he's broken key characters down to their most distinguishing elementt or two, from the crossbow wielding Daryl Dixon to the iconic hat of the morally stubborn sheriff, Rick Grimes.

You can get your hands on a print over on Ryan's Etsy, and check out the others after the break!

Francesco Francavilla And The Minimalist Posters Of Breaking Bad

Beginning. (Via)
Call me behind the times, but it's only been through the last year or so that I've started watching Breaking Bad. I'm at the beginning of Season Four, but I had the DVD on the shelf for years before I finally stuck it in and discovered one of my favourite shows. It also turns out that I'm not the only late bloomer, as artist Francesco Francavilla has also just discovered the show and fallen in love as well. So much so that the artist has decided to use his talents to produce a unique miniposter for each episode. As well as being a fantastic Italian comic book artist working for the likes of DC and Marvel, he also finds the time to work on side projects like this, much to his fans delight.

While he hasn't quite finished his collection for Season two, Francesco has just finished the art for Season One, and his interpretations of each episode were pretty amazing to check out. Enjoy the rest of the art after the break!

6 Star Wars Identities : What Forces Shape You?

Stormtroopers: Quantity, not quality (Via)
As part of a new exhibit taking place in Canada, specifically Montreal and Edmonton starting April 19th, 'Star Wars Identities' will explore the forces that made us all into what we are today. The posters explore that theme, using objects and settings that defined the most iconic Star Wars characters to create these portraits (With my personal exception of Queen Amidala, who had as much personality as a toaster). Check out the promo video below, and 5 more posters after the break!

Wizard of Oz Posters from 1902

You're getting a little too touchy-feely there, Scarecrow. (Via)
As much of a Wizard of Oz fan that I am, I had no idea there was a stage adaptation just a few years after the book was released in 1900. It was also a musical; one the preceded the iconic 1939 MGM film. This version was certainly different from both the book, and the film. One of the biggest differences being the downplayed role of the lion (which is evident from his lack of presence in these posters, one of the first things I noticed). This first poster... Can we say nightmare inducing? Okay, perhaps that's a slight exaggeration, but it's still pretty damn creepy.

Polygon Heroes

Captain America. (Via)
These interesting posters were created by a New Zealand artist simply known as 'James' to showcase iconic superheroes abstracted into their most basic shapes and colors. Looking through these images I kept getting flashbacks of fighting Andross from the original Starfox. Its a clever form of minimalism which has been attempted before, but rarely executed this well. James is selling these posters for $20 a pop on his website, Polygon Heroes. Check out six more examples after the break!

The Art Of Kevin Tong

DUNE by Kevin Tong (Via)

What hasn't Kevin Tong done at this point? The LA based freelance illustrator extraordinaire has been at it professionally since 2005, creating beautiful posters and illustrations for a plethora of big name clients. He's a machine with a very cool, graphic approach...And in my head, he's up there with the likes of Tyler Stout and Olly Moss...Just a few of the horsemen of the new poster illustration movement. Check out a few more pieces from his portfolio after the break!

20 Game Of Thrones House Posters

Damn Lannisters..up to no good. (Via)
With what house does your allegiance lie? This beautiful, minimalist poster series was created by Thomas Gateley of LiquidSoul Design to showcase the vast collection of factions and their allegiances from George R.R. Martin's epic 'A Song Of Fire And Ice' series. If you've only been watching the HBO show, 'Game Of Thrones' is only the first book out of seven in the series, so lets keep our hopes up and fingers crossed for all seven seasons getting greenlit. Check out 19 other posters after the break!

7 Marvel Minimalist Posters by Marko Manev

Minimalistic movie posters are one thing, but minimalistic comic book posters are in a league of their own for me. Artist, Marko Manev, created this awesome set of posters for varying Marvel characters, using shapes and symbols in some pretty smart ways. For $18 you can pick up a print from Marko's website right here. I definitely plan to order a few.

Thundercats: HOOOOOOOOOOO! by Synthezoide

(Via)
Another poster worthy tribute to the Thundercats, courtesy of the New York based comic artist Synthezoide (AKA Gael Bertrand) over on Deviantart. I really loved that he chose to make Mummra the focal point of the artwork, instead of just copping out and going with Lion-o. Mummra doesn't get enough love, ladies and gentlemen.

This Star Wars Poster Is Beautiful

Artist, Shan Jiang created this amazing Star Wars piece, which once again, needs to be in my house. Jiang managed to create a poster that doesn't come off as the, "HOLY SH** I F***ING LOVE STAR WARS" feeling that a lot of Star Wars art does. Instead, Jiang focuses on the sceneray in an attempt to display a typical morning in the Star Wars universe. [via]
