It's Happening: Starr Mazer Launches Kickstarter Campaign!

Last April, I did a write-up for Jérémie Périn's epic concept-game trailer Starr Mazer before shouting from the rooftops into the vacuum of space hoping against hope that this ludicrously entertaining mash-up of bullet-hell Shoot 'em up and pulp sci-fi point-and-click mechanics manifested into something actually playable.

Well, it looks like the long arch of the universe is smiling in my favor because Imagos Softworks has finally launched a kickstarter campaign to bring this modern-day opus of retro gaming to fruition.

I think my spaceship knows which way to go...
The team includes Périn who's back on-board doing concept-art; The pledge page promises an original chip-tunes soundtrack courtesy of the talented Alex Mauer (Serious Sam: Random Encounter), Manami Matsumae (Mega Man), The Protomen, and Virt (Shovel Knight), a colorful host of characters, and a multi-choice branching storyline that results in interesting subsequent play-throughs.

I really don't know if it gets much cooler than this. It's like if Space Ace, Commander Shepherd, Space Dandy, and Guybrush Threepwood got mashed all up into one guy who was then thrown into a black hole and then spat out into a Gradius Level. Go back this asap!

Worth Checking Out - "Gods Will Be Watching"

Seriously developers, keep the point-and-clicks coming, they're only getting better! Deconstructeam's Gods Will Be Watching is an interesting and brutal take on the point-and-click adventure formula, putting players in the midst of multiple moral dilemmas. Every choice you make has consequences, and as seen by the above trailer, some of those consequences are a bit brutal.

The narrative based puzzles in Gods Will Be Watching aren't to be taken lightly, as each choice will directly effect you and your team. What's interesting is the game's focus on you and your teams relationship, creating tense moments that will force players to decide to save the lives of your team members or the lives of thousands more.

Gods Will Be Watching is an incredibly intriguing take on moral choice in games, and while it's difficult to judge the game's focus it's characters the in-game choices shown provide plenty of potential for experimentation for different outcomes. Gods Will Be Watching is set to release on steam July 24th. If you're interested in giving the demo a go, check out their website over here.

Jay Tholen's Dropsy is back on Kickstarter; You Better Fund It This Time

Back in early July, developer Jay Tholen released one of the best Kickstarter videos to come out of the crowd-funding service. Despite the ridiculousness of the video and originality of the game, it never caught on, leaving Tholen with an unfunded game that he would continue to work on in his spare time.

Thankfully the unsuccessful campaign hasn't halted future attempts, and Jay Tholen is back with a second (technically third) try at funding his game, although this time Jay is asking for significantly less. Things are looking pretty damn hopeful this time around and the day that I'll finally get my hands on this surreal point-and-click adventure game is drawing even closer.

While Telltale Games has done a phenomenal job at popularizing the once thought dead genre of adventure games, there hasn't been a huge selection of old-school point-and-click style games to wet my whistle. Dropsy takes the idea of that 90's style point-and-click game you're used to and drops a vial of LSD on top while you click your way through an absolutely insane world. Let's face it, the world needs Dropsy, so take a look at the campaign over here.

"Stasis" Stirs From A Long Slumber, Launches Kickstarter With 2014 Release Date

For the past three years, adventure game fans and horror enthusiasts alike have eagerly anticipated news surrounding Stasis, a sci-fi survival horror point-and-click action game with painstakingly crafted environments and an engrossingly terrifying atmosphere. The love child of sole indie developer Chris Bischoff, Stasis has long been a promising new title that suffered from little hope of actually being released. That is, until now.

Bischoff has finally unveiled the game's new revamped website, complete with new media, developer diaries, countdown clock for a Kickstarter funding push, and a tentative release date of mid-2014! After playing Planescape - Torment earlier this year, I'm couldn't be hungrier for some more isometric point-and-click madness. Check out the new website, as well as one of the game's creepy promotional teasers above. You've come this far Bischoff, let's bring it on home.

Reminder: Kentucky Route Zero (Episode 1) Is Out And It's Awesome

While the beginning of the year is always incredibly slow for gamers, I still managed to miss the release of one of the most intriguing titles announced last year. It's incredibly difficult for me to explain the plot of Kentucky Route Zero without spoiling the game, but I can tell you that the visuals are absolutely incredible. The game, which plays as a point-and-click adventure game, focuses deeply on creating an incredible atmosphere.I found myself completely engrossed through my entire playthrough and I'd be surprised if you didn't as well.

Using a pseudo 2D art style, the game constantly shifts to some incredible 3D visuals while still retaining a 2D overlay. It's some impressive work and an amazing experience that I can't suggest enough.

You can pick up the first episode of Kentucky Route Zero now for $7 or pre-purchase all five episodes for $25 over here
