The Bible Of Barbecue - Tramontina Gets Creative With Their Marketing
Tramontina, a manufacturer of high end cookware and accessories recently unleashed this really cool promo for a book created in conjuction with JWT Brazil intended to teach aspiring chefs all the steps for great barbecue.
The Barbecue Bible is no ordinary book, as it's pages serve both as an instructional guide and the necessary ingredients for a BBQ. One page is made of charcoal, which is intended to be smashed and serve as the foundation of your fire. Another page turns into a fan to keep the coals burning, and other pages turn into elements including an apron, aluminum foil, knife sharpener, chopping board and place mat.
Unfortunately this very unique book will only be available in Brazil, but you really have to commend them for pulling off something so ingenious to promote a product line that would rarely be synonymous with exciting. If this ever does come to the US, I'm guessing you'll probably find it on a website like Uncrate.

Trip
Created by Vjsuave (Ygor Marotta), Juli Perez and Dante Zaballa, Trip is one of the most unique applications of projection mapping I've seen yet, with the group actually using the technique to create a full animated short on real life surfaces, incorporating elements of the environment as a means of furthering the story. The story revolves around a boy attempting to find some form of enlightenment, visiting various religious and mystical entities in the hope of finding answers to his conundrum.
Created for the Shiny Toy Festival in Germany, the Brazil based duo really brought the streets to life using their fresh take on projection mapping, choosing to incorporate their own hand animated creations in this relaxing tale.

The Pogo - An Ingenious Invention
Now I don't know if you have this problem, but I've come to the conclusion that mysterious djinni, gremlins and other malicious forces regularly find a way to wrap my headphones in mysterious ways around my office desk to reassure that they will get torn out of my PC, tangle my smartphone headphone wires and commit other such cursed tangling deeds. Many a headset have become casualties of these little bastards.
Well inventor Jon Patterson just released this very cool proof of concept video for something called a 'Pogo,' which uses a magnetic coupling system to prevent any damage to headphones getting suddenly yanked, be it by dropping, unexpected tangles or other mishaps. After watching this video I was eager to head to a Kickstarter for such a genius little innovation, but ultimately it turns out that he's in the middle of navigating the complex patent system to allow him to actually manufacture these. Headphones have been begging for such a system, so I really hope he gets a chance to bring his million dollar idea to fruition.

Why Not Hand Over A Shelter To Hermit Crabs?
One of the coolest uses of 3d printing I've seen so far, artist Aki Inomata was inspired by her pet hermit crab to embark on a journey to take advantage of the crustaceans built in competitive side to claim ever larger shells. The minimalist video (Including having no audio) chronicles the creation of a 'Kingdom Shell,' in 3D to placing the finished, translucent product in the crabs tank, and the inevitable take over.
Considering all the previous applications we've seen for 3D printing technology, this idea was truly born from Inomata's whimsical love for her unlikely pet, and her need to indulge it's primal instincts. Now we need a proper sequel to Shadow Of The Colossus to see this moving city in action.

MōVI : The Next Generation Of Camera Stabilization
Created by Vincent Laforet, MōVI is an interesting proof of concept showcasing the advances in camera stabilization using an evolved gyro-stabilized gimbal to provide some of the smoothest shots without any need for stabilization in post processing.
In leyman's terms, imagine a device that could pretty much eliminate any type of camera shake for professional cinematography by isolating the camera from the operator, and you'll get a good idea as to what the MōVI is about. Check out a demo of the concept behind this system and a behind the scenes of the short below. Whereas certain shots would be considered prohibitive to pull off, even with a full torso mounted steadicam rig, this product could potentially change the way that action sequences might be shot. There's never been any device capable of stabilizing cameras to this extent, until Laforte was inspired to evolve this medium. Amazing.

Bungie Unveils The World Of 'Destiny'
Bungie just unveiled the concept for Destiny, their upcoming 'shared world shooter,' and it looks like they've delivered on the hype they've built up around this project. Part sandbox, part shooter, part MMO and multiplatform in ways that have never quite been attempted. The entire concept of this game is rather mind bending, but exciting for it's refusal to adhere to any particular genre.
Following a ten year narrative arc, the game will attempt to craft a persistent universe that will keep player constantly involved and immersed in a seamless gameplay experience with plenty of social media connection as well. The entire idea evokes memories of playing Journey, except with an infinitely grander scale and an engrossing scifi world. We're looking forward to hearing more about this one. Check out some awesome concept art from the Bungie folks after the break.

Fractured Soul - A 3DS Title That Will Fracture Your Brain
You have to applaud Endgame Studios for really trying to take advantage of the 3DS's dual screen rather than treating it as a gimmick, opting to deliver a truly fresh experience. If you've ever been fortunate (Or unfortunate) enough to experience Ikaruga, which revolved around a dual sided ship switching colors to absorb different colored projectiles, this premise might seem familiar.
Fractured Soul takes that concept to the next level with one hero and his alternate dimension counterpart progressing through levels, with an awesome looking screen switching mechanic. The result is frantic looking, but I'm sold on the concept. Time to dust off that 3DS! You can get it on the Eshop for $12.

E3 2012 Most Innovative Title: Quantum Conundrum
Quantum Conundrum came as a pleasant surprise this year, and we ran into it in the unlikeliest of places: The Square-Enix booth. When the developers introduced themselves as the folks from Airtight, it rang a bell that I wasn't able to place till hours later. It turned out that these were the guys who had developed Dark Void under Capcom, an ambitious title which suffered the unfortunate stigma of being rushed out prematurely.
However, the Seattle based Airtight studios folks are making a triumphant return with a fantastic, mind bending title that is set to make a splash on select consoles this summer. While some might say that this game resembles Portal, we'd argue that its only in spirit as this FPP (First person puzzler) threw so many interesting, interdimensional dynamics our way that it absolutely stunned us. Combine the incredibly innovative gameplay with an incredibly appealing art style and you've got yourself a recipe for success. For thinking outside the box (Or fluffy safe), Quantum Conundrum definitely earned itself our Most Innovative title award. Keep your eyes peeled for this one, as we've got a great feeling that it's going to be huge!
