Google Maps - Pokémon Challenge

Call it an April Fools joke, but this is actually a pretty damn awesome collaboration between Google and Nintendo. Google's map software is actually now overrun with Pokémon in an amazing augmented reality stunt that will last till the 2nd of April. Following their Lego intiative, it seems like the Google map team has been having quite a bit of fun with their service.

Using a mixture of GPS and augmented reality goodness, users will be able to track down all 150 Pokémon in their own neighborhoods, with the promise that the best trainers will be invited to Google to take on the best trainers and be hired as a Pokémon Master. While the latter part of that claim is dubious at best, people have actually been out and about capturing them. Kind of like partaking in Geocaching (Except with infinitely more broad appeal), you can update you Google maps app on your Android or iOS phone to partake. I'm honestly hoping that Google actually rewards the people that will probably spend a day or two outdoors capturing every single last one of them.

Guild Wars 2 Super Adventure Box : Happy Fun Time

As part of ArenaNet's yearly April Fool's initiative, (Last year being their Guild Wars 2 commando) this year they've unleashed the Super Adventure Box, the next generation of Guild Wars featuring plenty of Mode 7, Blast Processing and epilepsy inducing 80's marketing to boot. Hopefully the last time we'll ever see a Charr wearing Kanye West shades.

April Fools everyone! Though we didn't try and trick anyone with some elaborate joke about the website shutting down this year, many other sites did! Some of them were actually pretty cool, funny and original. We already covered the Google 8bit Map and IGN's Mass Effect cartoon, so I thought I'd share a few of my favorites from other websites. Google Maps Drops An 8-Bit Bomb

We're on the eve of April fools at this point, but I think Google has already won the war for best prank product I actually would love to have. According to Google, the NES will finally be getting Google Maps, themed to the likes of Dragon Quest and complete with crunchy 8bit music. Remember, blow on the cartridge to get rid of bugs! Absolutely amazing.

IGN Presents Nitty, Gritty Harry Potter Series

Put down the dorky Lego games and the children books because Potter is getting gritty and dark, and he isn't going to play by the rules.

In true IGN tradition, they have released a trailer that required massive amounts of work for something that that will never be released. It's an April Fools, but one that I would totally watch.
