Vitamina T - A Colorful Look Into Mexico's Vibrant Food Scene

There's nothing better than a taco when the hunger pangs strike, and Vitamina T is an absolutely delicious look into the world of the Mesamerican street food festival, an event that takes place annually in Mexico City during May.

Colorful, eclectic and filled with flavors for any palate imaginable, we're offered a look at the festival from the break of dawn till the late hours of night. In between those hours we witness the preparation and consumption of an incredible line up of local specialties ranging from tacos, tortas, tamalaes, tlacoyos and everything in between. In a humorous break amidst all the amazing imagery, we even get to see a squirrel enjoying a snack during the day.

Director Nanda Fernandez Berdillard did an incredible job capturing the essence of the colorful city, and it's gastronomical tendencies. I'd skip this one if you're currently hungry, it'll make things a lot worse.

Everyday Thai

We don't usually feature much in regards to food on AwesomeRobo, but Spoonful Productions' Everyday Thai was too good from a presentation standpoint to pass up. Created as a promo for an upcoming cook book, we're given a glance at the creation of some absolutely delicious Thai staples, ranging from Green Curry to delicious Tom Yan Kung. Following the title of the cookbook, we're offered one recipe for each day of the week, and it's presented in a way that I'd imagine Wes Anderson (Those impeccably framed, centered shots) would if he was in charge of food promos.

The Eight Chapters Of Ramen

A good bowl of ramen is a bitch to find stateside, especially after having had the real thing in Tokyo. Over the last 5 years I've probably tried a few dozen ramen restaurants, yet always found that they could never quite achieve the balance that I found during my trip to the region. The broth was typically too rich or too bland, the noodles were not hand made, the chāshū (Pork roast) didn't deliver enough punch..The list goes on.

In this short documentary by Nowness, noodle obsessed chef Ivan Orkin goes into his attempt to start up his new restaurant, and the eight elements of his ramen at 'Slurp Shop,' which opened in New York a little while back (With a mixed response so far). Nonetheless, an interesting look into the development of a pretty complex dish.

One Minute in Mexico

You guys ever been to Mexico? I had a chance to go down there a few years back, and I finally found out what the term 'earthy' means in regards to food. Traveling from Mexico City down to Oaxaca and Acapulco, I found out that the 'Mexican' food I'd been having was a farce all along. Real tacos don't have hard shells. Nachos are bullshit through and through. Tex-Mex is an unholy, yet delicious amalgam of it's own.

True Mexican food was a punch in the face, in the best way possible: Rich flavors, fresh ingredients and some of the most amazing hangover meals at some of those 4am back alley Taquerias, expertly navigated by my local friend. The Perrenial Plate created One Minute In Mexico to be a visual guide to the two weeks of eats they had traveling around Mexico, and damn does it look delicious.

Fast Food Lasagna: So Wrong Its Right

The guys over at Epic Mealtime have probably created their biggest monstrosity yet, featuring 45 burgers from 3 different joints (Wendy's Baconators, McD's Big Macs and A&M Burgers), a liter of Big Mac secret sauce, a few dozen pounds of bacon and a few orders of onion rings. All crafted into a terrifying sodium and fat monument of a lasagna.  They've outdone themselves again. I couldn't look away.
