Cyriak's 'Malfunction' Is More Insane Than You'd Expect

From the depths of the insane animator Cyriak's harddrive comes malfunction, a seemingly straight forward Cyriak experience that slowly (or as slow as a 2-minute animation can go) transcends into hell. The description Cyriak has left states, "I've no idea what this video is. It crawled out from some dark corner of my computer after evolving from the virtual maggots that feast on rotting film footage", which is rather spot on with what I was feeling after my first viewing.

It's always an awesome day when Cyriak finds the time to leave a trace of his insanity on YouTube, especially with the immense popularity he's gathered since through his equally insane commercials and music videos.

With malfunction it seems that Cyriak may have finally lost it completely, transforming his staple "loop animations" into pure nightmare fuel, with a batch of found footage. I'm not really sure what to expect from Cyriak's next animation, but that's ok, I'm happy to be pleasantly disturbed time and time again.

Cyriak's Chimpnology

Congratulation Cyriak, this is the first video you've released to make me feel genuinely uncomfortable. If you're unfamiliar with Cyriak's work, this is definitely a fantastic place to start. Cyriak is probably best known for his Adult Swim bumps, along with his work on the short series Off The Air. Heck, we even have a tag dedicated to Cyriak if you're interested in his extensive body of work.

The experimental animator does some incredible things, creating infinite loops to glitchy beats and Chimpnology certainly doesn't fail to deliver in either of those aspects. If you have a few minutes, take a break and get ready to feel slightly uncomfortable.

Music Video Roundup - Bloc Party, Phoenix, Hodgy Beats

This absolutely deranged, yet hypnotizing music video for Ratchet, taken from Bloc Parties upcoming Nextwave Sessions EP is a dance oriented affair with a complete glitchfest of a music video, filled with random gif-like loops, intentional visual corruption and even repurposed footage from their 2012 Octopus music video. I wasn't sure who created the video until frontman Kele Oreke started sprouting multiple versions of himself, at which point I realized it was the craftwork of the deranged British Aftereffects warlock himself, Cyriak, who's recently collaborated with the likes of Bonobo and Flying Lotus on various music videos.

Bonobo - "Cirrus"

Bonobo returns with a beautifully crafted new music video, visually executed by the editing prowess of Cyriak. The track itself is an experience bordering on the mystical, thanks to the layering of delicate instruments comprised of chimes, xylophones and other percussive instruments followed by an eclectic beat to kick it all off.

The music video features a smattering of vintage clips starting off as separate entities before coalescing into an increasingly complex, synchronized organism that is sure to mesmerize you in full screen. 'Cirrus' is our first taste of Bonobo's upcoming April 2013 album, 'The North Borders,' which we're eagerly anticipating.

Flying Lotus - Putty Boy Strut

I'm glad to see that Flying Lotus is still dedicated to releasing awesome music videos despite his exploding fame, with the experimental producers latest featuring a track from his upcoming album 'Until The Quiet Comes.' Featuring visuals by the infamous Cyriak Harris, the music video narrates the devastating, yet beautiful results of a malfunction in a fully automated, robotic world. I never thought I'd see these two great minds come together, so this made my day.

Cyriak - Cobwebs

Cyriak has been an AwesomeRobo super-favorite for a long time now, and we've posted quite a bit of his work. He was recently commissioned by Showtime for their "SHORT stories" series, and the end result was this spider themed short, Cobwebs. It has the same whimsical, wacky Cyriak-esque style of music and animation that we adore. The trippy-ness level is even taken to that next WTF level. Absolutely amazing!

Festive Greetings From Cyriak

Cyriak returns with a true piece of bait and switch gold. I'll be enjoying the slew of nightmares I'm going to have of Santa hat wearing spawns from the netherworld. As Cyriak said it himself 'Something to remind us of the true spirit of Christmas.'

Welcome to Kitty City

From the bizarre and surreal mind of YouTuber and UK-based animator Cyriak, the creator of the amazing cows & cows & cows, comes a new trippy masterpiece.  Welcome... to Kitty City!!  With feline creations resembling glow worms to Transformers, this video has enough WTF to go around.  As one YouTube user so astutely commented: "Who needs drugs, when you have Cyriak!"  Yes, indeed.

Cyriak's Trident Ads

We're glad to see that Cyriak's been keeping busy with all kinds of commercial works. We've covered him a half dozen times or so here on the blog, and recently went to his Youtube channel to see what he's been cooking up. Despite there being no updates to his main accounts, we noticed he'd been adding some fun ads he's done for a Trident 'Senses' gum campaign called Pointlessfun, which seemed to be mainly for South American audiences. Heck, as long as he keeps cranking these out, we can't complain. 2 more wtf worthy videos by Cyriak after the break!

Sheep, Sheep, Sheep, Shee-it...

A while back news broke that cyriak, a favorite of us at Awesome Robo, was working on Adult Swim bumps. With my lack of cable, I've never been able to look for his bumps. So, I've been stuck with the internet hoping that one day cyriak would return, allowing me to break my trend of watching cows & cows & cows (as I type this, I've begun to realize how weird of a word cow is, dammit) on a daily basis. Finally, cyriak as returned with more animal animations, this time with an extremely adorable sheep.

Dammit now sheep is starting to look weird too.
