Cyriak's 'Malfunction' Is More Insane Than You'd Expect

From the depths of the insane animator Cyriak's harddrive comes malfunction, a seemingly straight forward Cyriak experience that slowly (or as slow as a 2-minute animation can go) transcends into hell. The description Cyriak has left states, "I've no idea what this video is. It crawled out from some dark corner of my computer after evolving from the virtual maggots that feast on rotting film footage", which is rather spot on with what I was feeling after my first viewing.

It's always an awesome day when Cyriak finds the time to leave a trace of his insanity on YouTube, especially with the immense popularity he's gathered since through his equally insane commercials and music videos.

With malfunction it seems that Cyriak may have finally lost it completely, transforming his staple "loop animations" into pure nightmare fuel, with a batch of found footage. I'm not really sure what to expect from Cyriak's next animation, but that's ok, I'm happy to be pleasantly disturbed time and time again.

Hi-Dilly-Ho!

Some pretty silly holiday elf animation loops from Allakinda- Who created this fun little piece on her free time in between jobs. Aside from being just pure fun, Allakinda introduced us to the music of Pelo Mono with this bite sized animation, a Spanish Rockabilly-styled group. Give their awesome debut album a listen over on the Pelo Mono Bandcamp.

It's Paper

Created as a  by Pingo Brinkloev, It's Paper is a playful, bite sized short with no specific goal other than being a test for achieving a papercraft look. Comprised of just under a dozen 4-5 second loops, Brinkloev offers us a look at a papery world in motion. While I was (Like many) initially fooled into thinking that this was a stop motion piece of sorts, it turns out that the entire piece was executed using a mixture of shaders and Cinema4D. Had me fooled!

Hallucinator

There's been a really cool trend of animators creating loops recently on Vimeo, and even dedicated websites have popped up for loop-mania. Most of them have typically been under ten seconds or less (Which is why we don't typically feature them), but every once in a while we get those long form submissions, like Charles Huettner's awesome Hallucinator loop, chronicling the life and times of a pink bird, born from a truly bizarre entity. Loved the sound treatment especially, those glitchy quacks and Atari-esque sound effects add a strange charm.

Livetune - Transfer

Kind of like how artists approach custom vinyl toys, this intriguing little collaboration for a music video features a slew of artists doing their own take on a sequence of a girl running through an environment, before looping into a different artists interpretation of her environment. The result is a collaborative effort yielding a full cornucopia of different scenarios, environments and art styles. This is pure fun from start to finish, with the pink haired heroine stuck in an unfortunate groundhog day style situation for our enjoyment. Absolutely awesome!
