Metal Gear Solid 3's 10th Anniversary Artwork is Astounding

Has it really been a decade since the third installment in Hideo Kojima's landmark stealth-action series?! To celebrate the ten-year anniversary of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake-Eater, Kojima Productions enlisted seven artist to reinterpret the boss battles that would mold the man known as "Naked Snake" into the legendary modern-warrior known only as "Big Boss".

Art by Yoji Shinkawa
MGS3 means a lot to me personally as a gamer. It was my first formal introduction to the series, one of the first games I bought for my PS2, and one of the first games to almost moved me to the brink of tears. A cold-war era, James Bond-infused spy drama with action, laughter, poignancy and heart. It still stands as one of my favorite installments in the series and as one of my favorite games of all-time. Check out the rest of the series after the break!

The Art of Ham Sung-choul

(Via)
Ham Sung-choul follows in the proud tradition of many South Korean concept artists in simply stepping aside and allowing his work to speak for itself. I love the rich color palettes that jump out through his art, the soft hue of light sources that create a real element of depth and personality to his pieces.

His character sketches and illustrations bring to mind a host of favorable comparisons; From the works of Final Fantasy artist Akihiko Yoshida to the Metal Gear artwork of Masao Tsubasa. This guy's got some serious skills. Check out more of his awesome work after the break!

Metal Gear Solid V : The Phantom Pain Trailer

It's finally out. Following a few arduous months of relentless teasing by Hideo Kojima regarding the cryptic Phantom Pain project and Ground Zeroes, it turns out that the joke was on us yet again, as Metal Gear Solid V is both of those projects combined. You wily devil, Kojima.

Featuring a fitting song by Garbage called 'Not Your Kind Of People,' the 6 minute trailer features 100% in game footage showcasing the attention to detail that we've only come to expect from the folks at Kojima productions. Phantom Pain is supposedly slated for release on PS3 and Xbox360 at some point with similarities to Peace Walker's base building gameplay.

Whereas Ground Zeroes, according to Kojima will star Big Boss, best known for his role in the Metal Gear prequels. So in conclusion, the next gen game will be a prequel to Phantom Pain, which will also tie in to Metal Gear Solid V somehow. If you're confused at this point in regards to these choices, you're not alone..Answers will arrive in due time. Sit back and take in this stunning 6 minute trailer of everything that these games will have to offer, and ask yourself: 'How does Solid Snake play into any of these titles?' With all the mentions of comas, two Foxes coming from one and implied deaths...I'm going to throw out one word and theory: Clones.

The New Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Trailer Has A Case of Batmanitis

As you may know, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance (god I never get tired of typing that) was our pick of most satisfying game of E3 last year and time is quickly counting down to the games release. To pump up fans even more, Konami has released a new trailer revealing the return of 'Jack the Ripper.'

While the trailer does exactly what it intends; Pumping fans up for the ridiculously over-the-top action, I can't help but cringe at Raiden's dialogue. Maybe I need to go and play Metal Gear Solid 4, but I don't seem to remember Christian Bale playing the role of Batman playing the role of Raiden. Still, despite the cringe-worthy beginning the trailer is still badass and I can't wait to get my hands on the full game February 19th.

Metal Gear Rising : Revengeance Concept Art Dump

(Via)
As the launch date for the action packed installment of Metal Gear Rising : Revengeance draws near, the trickle of teaser concept art has accelerated exponentially. Platinum Games just released a nice handful of concepts created by Yoji Shinkawa and Zhao, illustrating the development process of some prominent boss characters as well as a few new sketches of Raiden.

The bosses include a multi-armed female called Mistral and a strangely familiar looking character called Samuel, who despite Konami's insistence, still bears a strange resemblance to Metal Gear Solid 2 and 4's Vamp. A few 3D renders from Platinum's character art team also tease bosses with the codenames of Monsoon, Sundowner and Bladewolf, which you can check out after the break! February 19th can't come soon enough.

'The Phantom Pain' Announcement Trailer: Could This Be Metal Gear Solid 5?

Phantom Pain: Phantom pain sensations are described as perceptions that an individual experiences relating to a limb or an organ that is not physically part of the body.

Just like any other proper gamer out there, I share the sentiment of despising Spike's Video Games Awards. That being said, this breakout announcement from the show has lit the internet by storm, and has made the patronising award show worth watching. As much as I hate the VGA's? This trailer blew my f***ing mind.

Aside from the game studio, Moby Dick Studios, very little is known about this 'new' title, which seems to try to avoid any attachment with known franchises. People have pointed out very strange resemblances to characters from Metal Gear Solid, but with no confirmation other than a character that might be Solid Snake with an amputation this aspect remains to be seen. With Kojima at the Video Game Awards and the many subtle winks within the trailer hinting that this might be a multiplatform Metal Gear, I highly suggest you watch one of the most mind blowing and exciting trailers I've seen in years and come to your own conclusions. Guys, welcome to 'The Phantom Pain.'

Konami Announces Metal Gear : Ground Zeroes

(Via)
At this current moment in time I'm freaking out like a Twilight fangirl as I sit here in disbelief over Konami's newest announcement; Metal Gear: Ground Zeroes. While very few details have been confirmed, it is known that this next MG iteration will take place in an open-world environment, allowing for players to stealth their way through an entire map. The game might either be an open world title or yet another single player title, but I really hope to see Kojima evolve the multiplayer aspect of the MGS games.

Update 9/2/2012:
Check out the cinematic walkthrough featuring actual gameplay below. Snake returns!

E3 2012 Most Satisfying Title: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Many people expressed their weariness with Konami handing off a Raiden themed iteration of the Metal Gear Franchise to Platinum following their inability to make the concept work, ourselves included. The studio, best known for its work on the ultra slick Bayonetta had their work cut out for them, but after having a chance to get some hands on time with the game at E3 we're incredibly excited for what Platinum has accomplished so far with Revengeance.

We both dubbed it as a fantastic stress relief simulator, with its incredible slicing tech, a key component of the game that will guarantee this title a spot in the best seller ranks. Even though we've all seen gameplay of the slicing mechanic, the feeling that overcame me when I first managed to slice a cyborg soldier into a 100+ pieces was indescribably empowering. And then I sliced a helicopter in half, followed by a half dozen vehicles that held up like cheap toilet paper against my nano blade, followed by a table of..fruit. The game set out to give players the feel of being a cyber augmented ninja killing machine, and it accomplishes that on so many levels that it kind of hurts. I already know months in advance which title I'll be reaching for when I come back home in an awful mood and need to blow off some steam.

With its promise of also resolving whatever happened to Raiden following the Patriots saga in Metal Gear Solid 2 and his appearance as a cyborg badass in Metal Gear Solid 4, this game will satisfy on many levels.

Konami And Mega64 Team Up For Some Revengeance

Mega64 must have definitely won the heart of Kojima over with their various collaborations, as this year they're actually taking it a step further with an official promo for the next installment in the Metal Gear franchise: Revengeance. Turns out that Raiden didn't fare so well at the employment agency.

We've all been anticipating the Metal Gear Solid interquel taking place between Metal Gear Solid 2 and 4, a project that might have never seen the light of day had Platinum Games (Bayonetta) not stepped in to save the day. The action heavy upcoming title, which is set to be playable at E3 will hopefully give more insight as to exactly what events led to Raiden losing most of his body and becoming a cyborg killing machine between the events of Sons Of The Patriots (MGS2) and MGS4. Check out the official gameplay trailer after the break!

Metal Gear Rex : Its Alive

Screw rent, this is an investment in fine art.
So how deep are your pockets? Are you ready to purchase the Rolls Royce of Metal Gear Solid toys? Are you ready to wait a few months in the dark while ThreeA's mysterious production schedules unfold? Well these images posted to the official Konami Facebook show a semi assembled, painted Metal Gear Rex production prototype in their office.

The figure is absolutely massive, and ThreeA commented that the preorder date has been pushed back (All the more time to save up!). Its been rumored that Rex will cost anywhere from $350 up to an exorbitant $500, but we're hoping that it stays on the lower end if we hope to get our hands on one. Its been mentioned that this is the most ambitious ThreeA project to date, with 30 seperate parts for the legs alone. We'll keep you updated on the release date for this monstrous conversation piece, in the meanwhile check out more images after the break!

Metal Gear Solid HD Has 2 Surprises!

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will hit PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 8th in the US and February 3rd 2012 in Europe. Today also brought another cool announcement related to this upcoming HD pack. The Collection includes Metal Gear Solid 2, 3 and a spitshined version of Peace Walker, but Konami just announced that Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, the series' origins, will be added to this already sweet deal.

It's a shame that the first Metal Gear Solid won't be available on this pack, but I already have Metal Gear Solid on both the Playstation and the Gamecube. It's also readily available through the PSN, so I'm sure Sony probably doesn't want to lose that revenue. But I can't wait to play through this series in true HD. It's been a while since I've played 2 and 3, though I don't expect I'll be replaying 4 anytime soon.

Finally, A Proper Gray Fox Figurine

(Via)
Hideo Kojima just recently posted some images on his Twitter (Now in English!) about Yoji Shinkawa, the designer behind all the Metal Gear solid games supervising the production of a Gray Fox Play Arts figure. I've been waiting about 12 years for the iconic character to get a proper figurine. The figurine is 1/6th scale, seems to have plenty of articulation and a very detailed sculpt. No release date has been set, but I'll be eagerly awaiting in line to get my hands on one of these. 5 more images of the WIP figure after the jump!

Metal Gear Solid Looking To Get The HD Treatment

There's not much in terms of Metal Gear Solid that I'd pass up, actually I wouldn't pass up anything Metal Gear Solid related. Over at 1UP a rumor for an HD remake of the first three entries has risen. If this rumor is true, which it may be considering the recent HD collections Sony has released, then f*** the f*** yes.
