Savages - "Marshal Dear"

British post-punk outfit Savages just released this excellent visual accompaniment to their rather uncharacteristically slow, dark track called Marshal Dear, rife with imagery of war and disillusionment. Animated and visualized by UK artist Gergely Wootsch in collaboration with Savages guitarist Gemma Thompson, the concept of the stark music revolves around a bomb factory worker realizing her involvement in the death and displacement of thousands, before becoming undone by the guilt.

Thompson admitted that the scene was heavily inspired by a similar scene from Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five, which instead presented the scenario from a World War 2 soldiers perspective, and his role in the madness of a global conflict. This includes a scene in which bombers fly backwards, with the exploded bombs piecing themselves back together and the bullets on the battlefield leave the bodies of many fallen soldiers. Wonderfully executed music video with a powerful message.
