Sculptures by Shing Yin Khor

Artist Shing Yin Khor (aka Sawdust Bear) created this awesomely adorable series for the Stranger Factory's Subterrane Exhibit. She's an artist who is influenced by 'bad science, historical hoaxes, and cabinets of curiosities,' which makes her entry into this particular exhibit very appropriate.

Not only are the bright colors she used eye poppingly appealing, but also how innocent she portrayed each figure. While they look extremely odd and other-worldly, they also come off as very harmless. Perhaps even, sweet? If you're in the Albuquerque area November 9 - December 2, definitely go check this show out! More after the break!

Sculptures by J*RYU

We love being sufficiently creeped out over here at Awesome-Robo. And one thing that'll always be creepy is a strange, ghostly little girl. Artist J*RYU (Jesse Yu) sculpted these absolutely breathtaking pieces, primarily focusing on this sad, dead (dead-like?) little girl. The poor thing, finding herself in a variety of rather precarious situations. The amount of detail to these is extraordinary. This series debuted just this past Friday evening at the Rotofugi Gallery in Chicago, so if you're in the area, definitely go check it out!

BARRY X BALL SCULPTURES

Kind of reminds me of The Thing (Via)

Barry X Ball is an American artist based in NY, with some sculpture work that I truly found remarkable. Some of his best work in my opinion includes his black marble sculpture series and busts based on classical themes.

At first I thought these were resin cast sculptures, somehow 3d printed and then painted, but it turns out they are made of one of the most exotic stones around the world. After the break, you can check out a few more images of Barry's work. Pay special attention to the sleeping girl sculpture, which is in fact all made in stone, mattress and everything.
