Due out in October is the latest retelling of Alexandre Dumas' "The Three Musketeers". Many versions of this classic story have come before this upcoming release. Is it just me or does the trailer have a bit of a Pirates Of The Caribbean flavor to it? I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to capitalize off that series leaving the stage. There are several factors that I'm already taking issue with. Read what they are after the jump!
The first being that I'm a bit tired of the lack of creativity in Hollywood recently. We are getting far too many remakes/retellings/whatever you want to call them. The second being that this has to be in 3D. Too many movies are coming out in 3D. That special feeling of "Wow, it's in 3D! Cooool!" is started to wane.
And last, and though this is really petty on my behalf, I don't like that the character of D'Artagnan is speaking with an American accent. I know, I know... I'm being a bit silly. But movie characters that are supposed to be European but speaking with an American accent is just a pet peeve of mine.
I will leave you with one redeeming factor of this movie (based on this quick trailer): Milla Jovovich. Good god, that woman is gorgeous. I don't have many girl-crushes, but she's definitely one of them.

You do realize that when people are speaking in "American accents" during period pieces such as this, and Shakespearian plays. That if you study language, the people back then would actually speak more like the way we are now. And that it is the British accent that has evolved into the language.
ReplyDeleteWhat I mean is, that all these films and plays that take place during these times would be more accurate with an american accent
Oh really? That's interesting, I've never heard of that. I always thought it was the other way around, but I've never studied the history of languages. I'll have to look this up. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteI find it worse when they speak English with an accent of their country of origin. Like Harrison Ford speaking with a Russian accent in K:19 The Widowmaker.
