Flying Lotus - Coronus, The Terminator

Coronus, The Terminator is the latest installment in Flying Lotus' ongoing onslaught of masterfully directed music-videos. One of the most celebrated highlight tracks off of You're Dead!, Coronus needed an appropriately epic and ominous video to accompany the track's narrative of an harbinger of death coming down to lay waste to the Earth.

What we got was the story of man's premature passage through the bardos of the after-life, fleeing from the specters of death and regret that inhabit his home, and chasing the image of his son through the catacombs of otherworldly highways before ultimately submitting to the inevitable conclusion of his mortality.

Try though you might, you can't run forever...

This video is so chocked-full of symbolism it's intimidating. There's the destination of "Pleroma" and "You're Dead!" scrolling on the bus' LED screen, the eruption of lotus flowers, the one-armed son who can't place his hand on the chest of his father.

After watching it multiple times, I can't seem to shake the timeliness of this quote from one of my favorite horror movies Jacob's Ladder, "...if you're frightened of dying and... and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth." Young Prodigy has joined the ranks of Hiro Murai, David Lewandowski, Kahlil Joseph, and David Firth as one of Flying Lotus' most formidable collaborators.

Junkyard

We are transported into a truly dark, seedy underbelly in Junkyard, a truly incredible short about two boys who headed down completely separate paths in life. One chose a life of good and had a great upbringing while the other was not so fortunate - Ultimately a victim of his own parent's choices and what their negligence ultimately lead him to. This short is heavy, showing a downward spiral only rivaled by the likes of Darren Aronofsky's work.

Following a chance in a million encounter which results in tragedy, we are presented with the past that these two once shared together before the unthinkable occurs. The art direction in this short is absolutely incredible, using a mixture of intricate, oil painted backgrounds with semi-rotoscoped, yet stylized characters with touches of CG throughout. Written and directed by Dutch artist Hisko Hulsing, Junkyard is a powerful short about the choices we make, and their ultimate repercussions. The short has won dozens of awards in the international festival circuit since it's debut.

Disarming Corruptor - Cryptography For Copyrighted 3D Model Printing

Very interesting tool by M-Plummer Fernandez that also scares me for some reason for what it represents. While 3D printing has been burgeoning with the technology becoming cheaper and more accessible, people have already begun to explore the grayer area of this technology, including copyrighted designs. Corruptor allows people to encrypt these models by 'obliterating' them, a 3D term for damaging a model beyond recognition so they can be passed on without people knowing it's true nature.

Now the scariest part of this type of encryption is that it could definitely be used by the type of people who have taken to printing their own unregulated firearms (Schemas are already floating around) and weaponry, which could single-handedly ruin this entire medium for many if it's used for destructive purposes. I'm all for 3D printing, but not like this.

In a time of prolific online espionage, crackdowns on file-sharing, and a growing concern for the 3D printing of illegal items and copyright protected artefacts, DC is a free software application that helps people to circumvent these issues. Inspired by encryption rotor machines such as the infamous Enigma Machine, the application runs an algorithm that is used to both corrupt STL files into a visually-illegible state by glitching and rotating the 3D mesh, and to allow a recipient to reverse the effect to restore it back to its original form. The file recipient would need both the application and the unique seven digit settings used by the sender, entering the incorrect settings would only damage the file further.

Routine - Developers Embrace The Oculus Rift

Following a brief teaser last year, the developers behind the scifi survival horror project Routine have finally released a brand new trailer showcasing the incredibly atmospheric world they've created. The developers at Lunar Software have already confirmed that Routine will be 100% Oculus Rift enabled at launch, which will allow a level of immersion previously unheard of in games of this caliber. If you thought games like Amnesia and Penumbra were terrifying, just imagine the type of fear these games will elicit when you can't look away from what's hunting you.

Routine is a first person horror exploration game set on an abandoned Moon base. Your job is to find enough data to uncover the truth behind the strange disappearance of everyone stationed on the Lunar Research Station.

Found On The Tape: New ARG

Have you heard about Found On The Tape? I bet you haven't. This quiet viral campaign has caught my attention, but not many others. It hasn't been picked up by many sites, has very few views but is creepy as f***. I stumbled upon it by accident and still haven't figured out what is being advertised or what the campaign is for. Given that Paranormal Activity 3's viral campaign has been revolving around a VHS transfer company I expect that a connection could be made.

Slender Man In Your New Minecraft Update

Slender Man. A Meme that still haunts my dreams. It still creeps me the f*** out, and it looks like one of the scariest creations the internet mind ever created is coming to Minecraft.

In a Google+ post, Notch revealed a new mob called Enderman. They're depicted as tall, black creatures with long arms and legs, and seem to be able to hold blocks. It's possible the creatures are also based off the Minecraft meme/myth of Herobrine, the alleged dead brother of Notch who roams player's worlds and creates two block high tunnels and pyramids.

Looks like I have less reason to be playing Minecraft at night. Thanks a lot Notch.

Proof Of Aliens Or Another Viral Campaign?

Supposed leaked air force ufo footage has hit the internet by storm recently.
A supposed leak of confidential, classified documents has apparently been uploaded to youtube. This footage shows what appears to be an alien figure and a UFO flying above a field.

It seems a bit convenient that certain films will be released  in the next few weeks and suddenly this footage appears, but even if they are fake I must commend the people behind it; the footage is very convincing and well produced. Personally, I like to believe that we are not alone and aliens will come down and wipe us off the face of the earth. I have strange dreams.

Your Childhood Dies With This Post

I loved bouncy castles as a kid. Now, I view them as a bouncy inflatable funhouses of death.
A dust devil (a strong, well-formed, and relatively long-lived whirlwind) blew a bouncy castle 15 feet into the air, over a fence and into the middle of a busy highway - with the children still inside it.

Tanya Ali, nine, and Saif Akram, ten, had been playing inside the castle at a children's festival in Tucson, Arizona, when a whirlwind built up behind them.  Tanya underwent a five-hour operation to treat a broken shoulder, leg and several fractures to her face.

Nine Inch Nails teaming up with the Prodigy for the sound track for a David Lynch/David Cronenberg/Steven King collaboration terrifying. This video will haunt me in my sleep. If I can sleep after watching this.

An IBM supercomputer codenamed "Watson" just played two of Jeopard'y greatest human players and emerged the victor.

Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter, two former champions of the TV quiz game show, went up against Watson in a practice match yesterday ahead of a live TV special. And while they were good, Watson — thanks to the 200 million pages of reference material, novels and movie scripts scanned inside his mighty mechanical brain — was better.

Capable of 80 trillion operations a second, Watson is also an expert at speech recognition, meaning he can listen to a question, analyse the words within, compare it to his programming and come up with an answer in around three seconds.

As the future becomes the present, I would like to praise our future Robot overlords. All hail the might robots!
