Eclectic Method - A Brief History Of Sampling

Eclectic Method offers us a chronicle of noteworthy samples that have inexplicably been used by multiple artists over the years. Riffs that ended up layered into the background of dozens of different hit tracks used as a solid, oddly familiar foundation that you wouldn't notice unless it was explicitly pointed out via videos like this.

A video remix journey through the history of sampling taking in some of the most noted breaks and riffs of the decades. A chronological journey from the Beatles’ use of the Mellotron in the 60s to the sample dense hiphop and dance music of the 80s and 90s. Each break is represented by a vibrating vinyl soundwave exploding into various tracks that sampled it, each re-use another chapter in the modern narrative.

The Evolution Of Real Time PC Graphics (2000-2013)

Compiled by Youtube user PerfectHand, this video features about 13 years worth of Nvidia graphic demos, benchmarks and in game demos from the period at full setting. Starting off with Nvidia's Grove and ending on benchmakrs like Platige Image's Catzilla, this video shows just how far we've come in just over a decade.

My only qualm with these graphic demos is that they've lead to about a decade worth of false expectations for most gamers, especially considering that the practice of benchmarking lead companies to misleading practices like creating 'gameplay target videos,' with the final product being inevitably inferior.  Let's hope that companies have learned for their mistakes int he last few generaations regarding setting false expectations.

The Automotive Legacy Of Italdesign: 28 Specimens

1968 Bizzarrini Manta: Created for the Turin car show, this V8 supercar was one of the first designs to establish the aesthetics of the modern supercar and put Italdesign on the map.
We haven't covered cars in a while on Awesomerobo, so for the sake of variety I'd like to cover the history of Italdesign, a design company that has been around since 1968. The main man behind the company, Giorgetto Giugiaro (Born in 1938) has truly left a mark on the automotive world, pioneering the modern supercar as we know it and continuously innovating and pushing the boundaries in the field.

For his body of work, he was awarded the title of Car Designer Of The Century in 1999 and later induced into the Automotive Hall Of Fame in 2002. Check out 27 more designs after the break..And for fun, we even threw in some of the less successful concepts that never made it past concept stage.

A Short History Of Cg Characters In Films

These are the types of mini documentaries I absolutely love. A 20 minute look into the evolution of computer generated characters in movies over the 30 years or so. We've come a long way, but does anyone else find it weird that the CG in 1993's Jurassic Park still looks better than a ton of movies that came out in the eighteen years since? Seriously, its kind of mind blowing how well its held up. Its kind of cool seeing the footage of the early claymation attempts for Jurassic Park before they went the computer generated route. Its a pretty comprehensive look at all the most defining moments of the last few decades, enjoy.
