New Samurai Jack Comic Series Is Pretty Much The Greatest Thing Ever

Samurai Jack has always been Cartoon Network's magnum opus for me. Genndy Tartakovsky's ability to blend a serious journey of a lone wanderer with a strong and well thought out post-apocalyptic future, as well as some of the best comedic timing to ever grace an animated world has remained untouched since the series cancellation in 2004. It was a cartoon tragedy when the series finally came to an end, especially without any solid resolution to appease fans.

Luckily Tartakovsky and IDW aren't leaving fans out to dry any longer. The comic book publisher has announced a return the series after a nine year hiatus. What does this mean? Samurai Jack might finally get back, back to the past. This news hits me pretty close to home, as I remember being devastated growing up to know that Samurai Jack's story might never be finished. The first issue is set to be released in October with a variant cover by Tartakovsky himself and Chew's Rob Guillory. Prepare yourself. Two more alternate covers for the comic after the break!

Cartoon Network's Awesome Summer Collab Animation

This awesome collab project for Cartoon Network's signature summer ident was created as a collaboration between 6 studios. Featuring the chippy music of Impactist, each team was offered 10 seconds of music with a limited 4 color palette and a set cast of iconic characters from Adventure Time, The Amazing World Of Gumball and others to create an exquisite corpse style animation, stitched together following a few months of production.

For those unfamiliar with that terminology, exquisite corpse (Taken from the French term Cadavre Exquis) is a method for putting together a collection of images or words through collective assembly, with each collaborator adding their own unique take on a theme. The individuals and studios that collaborated on this awesome little collab, in order: Alex Grigg, Eamonn O'Neill, Impactist, leCRCR, Rubber House & Awesome Inc.

The Amazing World Of Gumball - The Proof Of Concept

Ben Bocquelet just recently uploaded a proof of concept trailer for The Amazing World Of Gumball, a Cartoon Network show that impressed many with it's usage of a mixed media approach to bring each character to life, ranging from 3D, stop motion and hand drawn characters. Fun fact: The show developed it's hodgepodge visual style via Ben's idea to throw a dozen rejected commercial characters from other projects he'd worked on into a common setting.



The appealing show has done well since it's debut in 2011, garnering favorable reviews and a slew of awards including BAFTA, Annecy and Annie awards. Cartoon Network's 20th Birthday Music Video

Courtesy of the folks at the UK based design collective known as I Love Dust, this collage celebrates twenty years of the network's finest series. Two generations worth of memorable characters partying in a series of eclectic, colorful collages. The video features music by Mad Decent and premiered on October 1st. I just hope they get the time to also create an Adult Swim variant of this same concept, because that would probably be even more amazing (Just leave out the King Of The Hill characters, k?).
