This 30-Second 'Apocalypse Now' Student Trailer is Ridiculously Impressive

Apocalypse Now is one of Francis Ford Coppola's most storied and critically-acclaimed films and a sobering depiction of the ravages of war on the human psyche. The only thing more iconic than the film itself is it's subsequent documentary Heart of Darkness, wherein we get a glimpse at the process behind producing the film that nearly drove Coppola himself to the brink of insanity.
The best part of waking up is napalm in your cup!
A class of students from The Animation Workshop,Denmark's leading animation institution, have released this epic 30-second trailer depicting Captain Willard's journey into the dark heart of the jungles of Vietnam to kill the demented Colonel Kurtz. I think it manages to succinctly capture the psychological gravitas and iconic imagery of one of cinema's most enduring classics. Great job guys!

Sleep Walk by Hey Beautiful Jerk

With the supposed Doomsday almost a year behind us, we're still finding no shortage of apocalyptic themed arts, film, and more.  Some lean on the side of bleak, while others tend to be a bit more lighthearted.  Animation team Hey Beautiful Jerk, consisting of Mark Szumski Gina Niespodziani, combines the two moods really well with their animated short, Sleep Walk.

Based off the Santo & Johnny 1959 instrumental song (Which you may remember from the film La Bamba... Or maybe that was just me.  Anybody?), the short also takes place in 1959, and features a doomsday enthusiast who finds his one last shot at redemption.  I loved the contrast between the harsh black and water, and stylized art with the emotional and soft classic song (which in this short, was produced by Pleaserock).

Its The End Of The World : Advertising Edition

Ah, 2012..If there's one prevalent thing I've noticed recently about advertising this fine, its been the upsurge of post-apocalyptic/doomsday scenarios being played up with the whole Mayan Calendar debacle looming. Whether its saving the world to walking through the destruction in the most passe way possible, these three ads each present their own fun take on the topic. In order, we've got Shock Top Beer by Ryan McDougal, the pixelicious Tech Con opening by John Kwoka and Kapsule 2012 by Vincent Viriot & Lauren Fradet.
