The Art Of Bioshock Infinite : To Columbia And Beyond

(Via)
As fellow editor Chris Riley put it best, 'This entire generation has lead up to Bioshock Infinite,' which isn't far from the truth. The third installment in the Bioshock series, developed by Irrational Games over a period of five years is truly an astounding achievement in game development, delivering a fantastic setting and story based off of real world issues. Delving deep into the concept of American exceptionalism gone too far and xenophobia, the game touches upon issues that other developers wouldn't dare to risk approaching. I can appreciate Irrational for trying to reinvent their franchises and established IP's constantly, and can only hope that other developers will take note of what Infinite accomplished.

With it's fantastically executed turn of the century look and it's interesting exploration of a dystopian utopia, the game truly captured an atmosphere that many games have strived for, but seldom accomplished. In this rather interesting Art Of post, we've gathered all the concept art we could find, as well as dedicating an entire section to some of the fantastic propaganda posters lining the walls of the floating city of Columbia. Check it all out after the break. In terms of concept artists who worked on the project, both directly and indirectly (Including the amazing fanart piece by Alex Garner, above) : Jorge Lacera, Robb Waters, Ben Lo and Chelsea Douglas.

Bioshock Infinite Goes All 70's In New Viral Video

I couldn't be more excited for Bioshock Infinite. The first game created one of the most deep and enriching experiences I've had. Whilst the second game couldn't recreate the experience I had with the first chapter, the third game in the series is suiting up to be something unique. Stepping away from the underground city of Rapture where the first two games were based, Bioshock Infinite takes to the skies with the floating city of Columbia.

This video, released by Irrational Games, starts to reveal certain storyline aspects of the game. The video is offered with a retro documentary style, offering some answers regarding the the mysteries of the floating citadel and it's disappearance. With it's sinister tone and talk about secession, I'm looking forward to more updates as the game's launch draws nearer.

Bioshock Infinite Is Back - Beasts Of America Trailer

Vaporware no more? After dropping countless jaws (Ours included) at 2011's E3, Bioshock Infinite disappeared from public view and failed to make an appearance at this years expo, much to everyone's confusion. Stories surfaced of a troubled development cycle, a lack of vision and focus around key concepts for the game, which lead to theories about the game possibly getting canned.

However, much to everyone's surprise a new trailer dropped today, featuring all new snippets of gorgeous looking gameplay and a tentative release date for early 2013, as well as a peak at goodies for the collectors edition. So while we're at it Irrational Games, what about getting an update for the 60's era Xcom project that has gone mysteriously missing as of late?

15 Minutes of Bioshock Infinite Makes Me Want A Time Machine (minor spoilers)

Alright, that's it, either you get me a time machine or I'm hibernating until 2012. I hardly ever get excited for games anymore, but BioShock Infinite looks to be one of the greatest pieces of interactive story-telling to date. Judging from the trailer above (small spoilers of course), I'm already seeing a possible game of the decade, but I won't jump the gun just yet.

Unlike BioShock and BioShock 2, the world of BioShock Infinite is festering with life, showing the degradation of a society in the midst of war. Being able to walk around the BioShock Infinite world and interact with it's citizens looks like one of many immersing aspects of the game. That and blowing their faces clean off with a shotgun while using a murder of crows for crowd control. I must say, the part I'm post excited for is the use of Columbia's skyline system, allowing for amazing chase sequences like the one above.

GODDAMN, I am excited for this game.
