Deadman: The Series

Tv is Dead....man....(Via)
The CW needed a superhero show to fill the void of Smallville, and it looks like that void wont be around for long. Deadline revealed earlier today that a new show, based on Deadman by DC, is being developed as a potential series with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke taking on the role of writer and executive producer.

Having the creator of Supernatural, Eric Kripke, on board means that they have someone who is already adverse to the world of the paranormal genre, which in turns means that the series will have those years of experience under its belt to use for the advantage of the show (and if that means good storytelling and less about Clark Kent b****ing about teen problems makes for a great show).

But who is Deadman?

Deadman is a ghost, formerly a circus trapeze artist named Boston Brand who performed under the name Deadman. He is murdered during a trapeze performance by a mysterious assailant known only as 'The Hook,' and his spirit is given the power to possess any living being by a Hindu goddess in order to search for his murderer and obtain justice. Why this hasn't been made into a TV show yet is anyones guess.

In 2009, Deadman was nearly made as a feature film, produced by Guillermo del Toro, Don Murphy and directed by Nikolaj Arcel. Deadman also played a huge part in Brightest Day, DC's last cross-over title in 2010/2011. It's nice to see Boston become more mainstream, and I really hope the show does well. Especially if it's good and leads the way for more superhero shows.
