10 Fanmade Versions Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles We'd Rather See

We've all seen it at this point. A trailer featuring the Michael Bay produced version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And in general, our response was pretty much in line with the rest of the internet. Confusion, a little bit of anger, a bunch of Shrek jokes thrown about liberally. In this day and age it seems warranted to be concerned about Michael Bay getting his hands on anything, as historically he's shown us the ability to drain the soul out of properties he touches (Transformers 1-4). And after watching the gritty trailer and the telltale signs of a style filled with flash but no substance, seeing Megan Fox recast as April O' Neill..It seems like this world exists in the exact same realm as the ill-fated reincarnations of the Autobots and the Decepticons (The merchandising did amazing though).

It's not the worst thing we've seen, and it might be half decent- But the overly designed reimaginings of these Turtles sure do bug the hell of us. Why did they feel the need to push the iconic turtles designs into an uncanny territory by giving them more humanoid features? As a result we've spent the last few days scouring the internet for artists who probably could have done it better, if only they'd been offered the chance. 20 Vintage Scifi Magazine Covers : Pulp Fiction

We just recently got linked to an amazing archive of vintage pulp fiction magazine covers from 50's era magazines including Amazing Stories, Other Worlds, Fantastic Adventures and more. These magazines were incredibly popular during an era dominated by world war, economic downturn and other sociopolitical factors that made these magazines an appealing escape from reality at the time.

These inexpensive magazines gained their 'pulp' classification based off of the cheap paper that they were typically printed on, as well as their content, which typically focused on sensationalism and exploitative stories to drive sales against other competing pulp magazines. 30 Vintage Vaudeville Photos

While it's not too difficult to stumble across old photos online, coming across really interesting, borderline bizarre ones can be. Similar in feel to the well-loved vintage Australian mugshots that we unearthed last year, these old-timey Vaudevillian photographs have that quirky, somewhat off look to them. From children to little people (or the more history-appropriate term, midgets) among many others, Vaudeville ran the gamut of performers during it's heyday from the 1880's until the 1930's. We've gathered 30 of the more interesting Vaudevillian photos of the archive that we stumbled upon. So brace yourself for looks that'll stare straight into your soul. Or at least make you feel kinda uncomfortable.

I've heard some awesome stories about Japan, and the interesting variety of food they offer. When someone told me that Kit Kat bars come in a variety of flavors, my brain could only think of roughly 10 different possibilities. I was in for a big surprise. Estimating around 100 varieties, flavors like caramel or mocha made sense, but aloe vera? Or "French salt"?? I have another reason to add to my list of why I really, really want to visit Japan.

22 Bizarre Sculptures From Norway's Vigeland Park

If WTF had a park dedicated to it, Norway's Frogner Park would be my nomination. The Vigeland Sculpture park is the result of a certain sculptor, Gustav Vigeland having what appears to be a sculptural equivalent of a bad trip with severe Freudian consequences. As a result the park is scattered with sculptures of men battling babies, women being forcefully carried off, piles of intertwined bodies towering high and some other pretty damn baffling sights. The fact that such a park currently exists is just awesome in our book...I'm adding this park to my bucket list of places to see.

This series of awesome illustrations was created by a Japanese artist who goes by the alias of 'Sato.' The idea was simple: If each bird species represented a country, what would their military garb look like? His execution of the idea turned out awesome, with each bird wearing a very distinct flavor of outfit to complement their colors, shape and demeanor. Christopher Boffoli's Disparity series takes the art of Macrophotography (Close up photography of very small subjects) and spices up his subjects by adding in tiny miniature people doing various activities, adding a wonderfully surreal, fun feel to all his pieces. Whether it be a lone janitor cleaning mustard off a hotdog to a crew repairing potholes in Reese's peanut butter cups, his images are colorful, playful and whimsical. Its really awesome that it looks like he's having fun telling a story with every image.

The folks over at Antrepo4.com have been creating some very interesting case studies for minimalism in commercial products, stripping them down to nothing but their most fundamental features, while still retaining a familiar look to the original product. Judging from how some brands, including Starbucks have been going the minimalist route with their packaging when their brand got recognizable enough, I wouldn't be surprised if the Antrepo guys are laying down the future of packaging with these concepts...The minimalism is kind of futuristic to me. 8 Bottled Wonders By Black Mago

Black Mago is an Ecuadorian artist based out of Quito. His specialty revolves around creating bottled little vignettes of classic animated movie characters like Ghibli's Totoro, to internet memes like his recent Nyan Cat in a bottle, pictured above. The catch is that he works at micro scale, creating awesome little dioramas in super tiny bottles. Kent Rogowski had the idea to take standard stuffed bears, turn them inside out and restuff them to see what they looked like. What would incline him to do such a thing? He probably hates children, among other things. The end result was a series of nightmare inducing horror bears that will haunt me for weeks. This series was created seperately by photographer James Reynolds and the Brooklyn based Chef/Artist
Julia Ziegler Haynes respectively (Her website is currently down).  At different points in time they decided to recreate the last meals of various death row inmates from around the nation and photograph them as a series. Its a tad on the morbid side, but its really curious to see how inmates handled this last request....A chance to eat anything they wanted, a last chance to enjoy something they probably hadn't had in years.
