E3 2014 - "Sunset Overdrive" Pokes Fun At Activision With Their Latest And Greatest Trailer

Amidst a sea of grit, grays and browns lies a new AAA hope and darling - Insomniac's Sunset Overdrive. For E3 they played it pretty clever by playing up the fact that they're one of the incredibly few new franchises to pop up and re-embrace an art direction style that's been mostly absent in main stream games as of late- Colorful.

Call Of Duty is the obvious target here, with the colorful protagonist making fun of the stale gameplay and art style before offering an introduction to Sunset City and plenty of gameplay to boot. Out of all the Xbox One exclusives, without a doubt this is probably one of the most desirable offerings they've had to show yet.  It's loud, rambunctious and is (As they put it) the culmination of everything Insomniac's been working towards all these years.

While I haven't picked up an Xbox yet, this is one of those titles that would probably get me to drop the money on one. A breath of fresh air outside the indie gaming scene, finally. And also, let's not forget that the amazing folks at Honkfu lent their distinct art styles to help shape the world of Sunset Overdrive.

Sunset Overdrive Is Looking Awesome

Following relative radio silence since the game's colorful reveal at E3 2013 last year, Insomniac is finally offering us a larger taste of what this fun little sandbox game is going to have to offer. Sunset Overdrive is going to be a colorful post apocalyptic sandbox adventure with elements reminiscent of Saints Row mixed with Jet Set Radio. The incessant grinding mixed with the ease and fluidity of movement looks fun, mixed with some over the top environments and the Insomniac staple of crazy weapons.

The game definitely doesn't take itself seriously, with a premise centered around an energy drink called Overcharge Delirium spawning an army of  mutants. After looking at some concept art I thought something about the game seemed a little familiar, until I realized that the Russian concept house Honk Fu, along with the likes of Vasili Zorin were behind the distinct look of the game.

While the title is as of now still exclusive to the Xbox One, I'm kind of hoping that the game will find itself onto other platforms soon after launch. Absolutely love the style, the colorful world and the fact that Insomniac seems to have learned a lesson from their botched Fuze game, which relied too heavily on focus groups to drive the vision and style of the game.

Insomniac Gives Us A Glimpse Into Their Canceled Pinball IP

Captain Starlight, intended to be one of the Pinball tables you'd play.
In this day and age, Insomniac has been best known for their Resistance and long last Ratchet & Clank series. While browsing Facebook recently though, Insomniac decided to share some images from a 2007 IP that never quite managed to get off the ground, 1080Pinball (1080P for short).

The project was supposed to be the equivalent of what Rockstar did for Table Tennis back in 2006, creating the most realistic simulator of that sport on any system yet. I'm guessing Insomniac had that same mindset after releasing the first Resistance on PS3, but for whatever reason we're guessing other projects got in the way. We've gathered a bunch of images from the canceled IP, so take a look at them after the break!
