Worth Checking Out: Darkwood

Growing up I began to build a strong relationship with the horror genre, from movies to games. My first memorable experience comes from the Playstation classic, Resident Evil. Yes, the game was fantastic at creating tense moments no matter the situation, but really stands out in today's gaming world are the restrictive controls. When an enemy attacks, you're not able to hide behind cover, roll, run and shoot or even walk and shoot, instead you were forced to calm your nerves and take aim. Since the recent emergence of "action-horror" I've yet to find a game in the past few years that has forced me to take control of my fear in order to survive, but if the alpha footage of the indie title Darkwood is anything to go by, we're in for a treat.

Darkwood is a top-down, procedurally generated, open-world survival-horror game that seems to put a large emphasis on the survival aspect of the survival-horror genre. Players are pitted against an unknown force, forcing players to always stay on their toes. One tiny mistake can cost you the game, and running for your survival looks like it may provide an even larger threat. Mixed with a crafting system, Darkwood is definitely a game worth keeping an eye on. We'll definitely be keeping you posted for more information, but you can checkout the studio's website over here.
