Aaron Beck is one of the senior concept designers over at WETA workshop, having had the chance to contribute his industrial design skills to films including District 9, Avatar as well as having contributed designs to the upcoming Elysium and Mad Max: Fury Road.

Using a mixture of photo compositing and a heavy understanding of mechanical function, Aaron's works lean heavily on a functional design foundation. Whereas many concept artists tend to leave aspects like say, how a joint might rotate to give it a good range of motion to the imagination, artists like Beck will go all the way to make sure their design makes sense. In conclusion, this falls into the two camps that concept artists tend to head in - Form over function, or function over form. Check out more of his designs after the break.
