The Art Of CT - Scifi Goodness

(Via)
CT is a Chinese concept artist and self proclaimed mech-head with one mission in life, demonstrated via a slogan slapped on to his art website: 'I will burn my last drop of blood for making FPS games!' Currently a student and a game industry hopeful, I have no doubts that he'll have a hard time attaining this goal with the level of talent that he's currently showcasing in his work, thanks to using a pre-visualization technique usually encouraged in concept art oriented schools.

In a style similar to Kow Yokoyama's Maschinen Krieger, CT is crafting his own worlds and universes to showcase his ideal project, a form of scifi still grounded in a tangible reality. Whereas the Maschinen Krieger universe draws from a pool of WWII era visual language, CT chose to do a more futuristic version of contemporary astronauts, decked out with specialized weaponry and propulsion kits as well as a few takes on terrestrial vehicles and even a space station of his own design. Check out more of his cool designs for his dream project after the break!

The Mechs Of Stewpan

(Via)
Stewpan is a Japanese artist, illustrator, graphics designer, comic and concept artist currently working as a web designer and typography artist over in Tokyo. Despite his current job, Stewpan shows off his true affinity as an industrial designer on his free time, creating an entire stable of mechs that emphasize his love of functional designs.

As I've mentioned before, there are two schools of thought that exist for designers: Function over form and form over function. One emphasizes a more free form approach, focusing on silouette and simply looking cool whereas a functional mindset attempts to design something that could actually function in real life. Stewpan is definitely the latter. Check out more of his mecha creations after the break!

The Mechanical Goodies Of Jparked

(Via)
As a former Art Center alum, John Park has been impressing mech heads all around with his excellent industrial design skills, the probable outcome of being under the tutelage of industry greats like Scott Robertson. Mixing an impeccable understanding of perspective with a variety of techniques ranging from photobashing (Using photos to add detail to select areas in paintings) to hand sketching and 3D block outs, John's process is constantly evolving towards all new highs.

Currently employed by Adhesive Games, John's been contributing his mecha prowess to expanding the engrossing world of Hawken with some truly diverse designs. Check out more of his work after the break!

Industrial Divinities By Aaron Beck

(Via)
Aaron Beck is one of the senior concept designers over at WETA workshop, having had the chance to contribute his industrial design skills to films including District 9, Avatar as well as having contributed designs to the upcoming Elysium and Mad Max: Fury Road.

Using a mixture of photo compositing and a heavy understanding of mechanical function, Aaron's works lean heavily on a functional design foundation. Whereas many concept artists tend to leave aspects like say, how a joint might rotate to give it a good range of motion to the imagination, artists like Beck will go all the way to make sure their design makes sense. In conclusion, this falls into the two camps that concept artists tend to head in - Form over function, or function over form. Check out more of his designs after the break.

The Cute But Deadly Creations Of John Parker

(Via)
Jake Parker is a Utah based freelance illustrator, comic book artist and designer who captured us with his cute but deadly mechanical creations. Previously employed  by Blue Sky films, Parker had a chance to contribute his design skills to creating some memorable films including Horton Hears A Who, Rio and their upcoming Epic.

Mr. Parker's charming style allows his pencil work to shine through, giving his pieces an awesome textural aspect. Despite the cuteness of his pieces, his work shows off an appreciation of functional industrial designs (That would make great toys imo). Check out more of his awesome work after the break!

The Art Of Talros : Mech Wonderland

(Via)
Talros (Aka Daniel Graffenberger) is one of the many artists to have been inspired by the iconic ship design of Relic's Homeworld, an award winning scifi game that was lauded for it's incredible art direction, music and gameplay back in 1999. Many scifi concept artists we've had a chance to talk to in recent memory have listed Homeworld as one of their influences for getting into the field, and in Daniel's case he's incorporated the unorthodox design language of the title into his own style, resulting in some truly cool designs.

Based out of Berlin, Daniel's current work is mainly from a hobbyist/freelancer perspective, but at this rate I wouldn't be surprised to see him break into the industry. Check out more of his industrial design goodies after the break.

The Industrial Wonders Of ASTGraphics

(Via)
ASTG (Aka Dangerdrop) is a Japanese industrial designer based out of the Kanagawa region who just recently started combining his love of machinery with illustration to create some truly cool illustration work. Whereas his previous line of work typically entailed mechanical engineering design, the artist has just recently started to branch out into a more personally rewarding, creative field.

Whereas the anime characters that inhabit his concepts and illustrations are nothing out of the ordinary, his mechanical designs truly show the type of functional understanding that an industrial background can bring to the table. Check out more of his concepts and illustrations after the break!

The Art Of Fightpunch

(Via)
Fightpunch, aka Darren Bartley is a Frankfurt based artist (Currently working for Crytek) who's work mixes a healthy level of industrial design prowess with a tempered amount of playfulness. Using programs like Sketchup hand in hand with Photoshop, Bartley is capable of efficiently blending 3D and 2D into a seamless process. These types of tools have come into play as a result of harsher production environments, requiring artists to become more efficient in their processes.

Darren is one of the rare self taught artists out there, which is a pretty awesome accomplishment considering the type of competition that the field tends to offer. Check out more of his awesome work after the break!
