Boy by Topaz Adizes
In this subtle coming-of-age short story, an adolescent boy spends the day with his father out in the country. With minimal dialogue and almost non-existent audio (save for the sounds of a truck and the occasional bug chirp), there's a sense of foreboding; Something just feels off. It isn't until almost the end that we see what the turning point is: The boy is essentially given a task that is a rite of passage, one that he's visibly not comfortable with. The unexplained ending leaves us with questions, but it was made obvious by the filmmaker that those questions are better left unanswered.
