'After You Die' Answers An Age-Old Question In The Cheekiest Way

Comedian Cartoonist Ramin Nazer's picture-book "After You Die" is a colorful and irreverent look at one of the otherwise most solemn and universal questions of the human condition; What happens after I die? Proudly proclaiming itself as non-denominational, After You Die combines robots, skeletons, surprise parties, the fourth dimension and Super Jail-esque visual to chart a hilarious road-trip through the annals of the after-life. Condensing the concepts of Ghosticism, Christianity, Existentialism, and Solipsism in a way that's both hilarious and easy to understand.

The Super Rope Solution

Dutch animator Auke de Vries created this awesome tongue-in-cheek short called 'The Super Rope Solution.' Telling the story of a lazy man who orders a Rube Goldberg-type machine from a late night infomercial, he finds himself regretting his decision (as is probably the case with most late-night infomercial customers).

It's a fun, lighthearted way to poke fun at all of those useless devices that end up being more hassle than convenience.  The desaturated, crosshatch art-style reminds me of children's books from the 70's and 80's; Something similar to Shel Silverstein.  

C'est La Vie

Simone Rovellini's short essentially throws together an adorable array French cliches.  It's the day in the life of a young woman, Henriette.  It's just all so incredibly pink, frou-frou, lacy, ribbony... Essentially, every single item on the stereotypical girly-girl's list is checked off.  Twice. All done in good fun, and incredibly tongue-in-cheek.  Though narrated in Italian, we found the English subtitled version.  Enjoy!

Man

While handled in a rather silly way, the animated short 'MAN' takes on the rather heavy topic of our effect on Earth. Seeing as we're not a political blog, nor do we try to be too serious around here, I normally wouldn't delve into such a topic. However, I particularly liked the fun yet tongue-in-cheek nature of this short, and felt it worthy of sharing. While I really don't think anyone can argue that humans have had an effect on this planet in some fashion or another, what that particular effect is is frequently debated.  You be the judge! 

Merci Satan - Detective God

In this slick pilot episode of Detective God, Jérémie Périn interprets the phrase of 'unforgiving yet merciful god' in a rather interesting manner, showcasing the religious conundrum of entering the world guilty of the 'original' sin committed thousands of years ago (Thanks Adam). If you liked it, you'll just need to wait a few thousand years while earth repopulates again for season 2.

Ghosts With Sh** Jobs

I absolutely loved the premise of this completed mockumentary, a project which was recently successfully funded on Kickstarter for a nation wide tour. The movie was created as a lofi-scifi feature with 50 volunteers, who contributed over 6500 hours to the project to narrate how the job market will look like 20 years after a complete economic collapse in the West. The result? People willing to do all the jobs that nobody would do in the East. From human spammers to data cloud silk harvesters to digital copyright janitors, its a pretty tongue in cheek vision of the future with a fun premise. Vlad the Impaler Pt. 1

Alright folks, it's history lesson time. In case you didn't know, the fictional character Dracula was loosely based off a real dude nicknamed Vlad the Impaler. Recounted as one of the more brutal figures in history (duh, nickname), this funny short has a chill, tongue-in-cheek narrative style that offers a playful take on a truly terrifying historical figure. The animation/art style is a bit rough, but it definitely adds to the charm. If only most history lessons were this cool. We're on the lookout for Part 2.

Red Moon

The downside to being Captain Alexei Ovechkin, an otherwise awesome, super Soviet submarine admiral is his unfortunate werewolf condition. This tongue in cheek, red tinged short by Sirocco Research Labs (directed by Jimmy Marble) chronicles the tragic tale of a crew at odds with their shapeshifting commander. Turns out that a Russian werewolf's only weakness is the bullet of capitalism.
