Nada Doctor

Matthew Yang's Nada Doctor is an incredible short about an aspiring doctor employed as a temp at a seriously overcrowded hospital. Conflicted between his duties doing simple secretarial work and attempting to do greater good despite his lack of experience, he ultimately finds a way to put a smile on patients faces.

The colorful style of the short drew some parallels to Sesame Street, especially in the sylization and flat color style of the characters and environments. The protagonist himself was incredibly charming in his earnestness and desire to simply help in whatever way he could. Matthew Yang did an incredible job at portraying his ability to animate subtlety in his characters, and all the extra time he spent on cleanup and coloring this 6 minute short (Pretty mind blowing for a one student short).

Lady with Long Hair

Another recent addition to Cartoon Brew's annual Student Animation Festival is Barbara Bakos' animated short, Lady with Long Hair.  It's a very lovely story about an elderly woman and how she is led the reminisce about her younger years.  The stylized, whimsical, and mostly colorful art is balanced out nicely by mostly silence, followed by quiet, dreamy music.  Stick around for the metaphorical, and touching ending!  

It's Not Toy Story 4, But Prepare For Some Serious Nostalgia

There's a new Toy Story action figure commercial, and its one of the coolest ads I've had the chance to see in a while. It's sweet and really reminded me why I fell in love with the franchise to begin with.

The commercial itself was created in stop motion, and features Woody and Rex in space suits helping Buzz stop the Evil Emperor Zurg. Makes me want to be a kid again! Thanks Pixar.

Thurston Roscoe Takes Us Back To Our Childhoods

I remember when my friends and I would chip in on a roll of Kodak film and take pictures of toys in different situations around the house. Thurston Roscoe is kind of doing the same thing, except with better cameras, compositions and lighting... and it looks like they're having a ton of fun doing it. I really loved looking at everything these guys have done so far, a total of five images. I was kind of concerned about them not having posted any new images in a while, but hey..Rest assured, after contacting them I was told they have more images in the works! Check out the other 4 images after the break...And seriously, consider buying a print to support these guys! For only $15, these images are a steal.

The Visual Effects Of Game Of Thrones

Aside from Game Of Thrones having a pretty spectacular first season story wise, it also managed to create an incredibly immersive setting to draw viewers in. In short, it was the full package. This video takes a look at some of the top notch compositing work that the VFX studios known as BlueBolt and SSVFX did for the show. Some of the setting elements were so seamless that I didn't even know they were added in via CG until I saw this. Kudos to HBO for going all the way to fully immerse their viewers, as usual.
