The Art Of Prometheus

In honor of the release of Ridley Scott's long anticipated return to the ailing Aliens franchise, I wanted to dedicate this Friday to honoring all the artists and artisans that helped bring the world of Prometheus to life. From concept artists to visual effects sculptors, they definitely accomplished the goal of creating a visually stunning film with some of the best 3D work I've ever seen in theaters.

Despite reviews being mixed, I'd like to remind everyone that the original Alien received the same mixed reception upon its release in 1979 for reasons similar to Prometheus. So if you've been relying on your polar opinion friends to determine whether or not to check it out, let us recommend you ignore those guys and give yourself a chance to experience this film and make your own conclusions. Either way, we've compiled a ton of posts and art to give you a well rounded idea of just how much care and attention went into the visual development aspect of this film. This post will mainly feature the work of Ben Procter, David Levy and Carlos Huante (Who did the majority of the work). Developing The Look Of The Prometheus By Steve Burg

Steve Burg was one of the concept artists brought on to help with pitch phase concept art for the Prometheus project. For those of you unaware, that stage is typically where the film is presented ot the studio for consideration/funding. Steve was responsible for providing quick, iterative concepts of the Prometheus (Known as the 'Magellan' at the time of these concepts) to meet Ridley Scott's vision of the ship. His groundwork would lock down several key aspects of the ship, like the VTOL  engines (Vertical take off and landing) and body shape. Check out the evolution of the ship after the break!

Prometheus Mood Pieces By Alex Kozhanov

Alex Kozhanov, an artist who goes under the monicker of 'Gutalin' is a Russian freelance artist based out of Kalningrad, Russia who had a chance to work in Ridley Scott's visual development stable for Prometheus. If I were to guess, I'd say he contributed early on to provide various mood and atmosphere pieces for the locales that eventually ended up in the movie.

With a specialty revolving around matte painting and high level visual language, Gutalin managed to create a few pieces perfectly capturing the spirit of HR Giger's biomechanical style, melding organic shapes with industrial motifs. Check out more of his work after the break!

Prometheus : Creating The Look Of The Engineer By Connor Sullivan

A sculptor by the name of Conor O' Sullivan recently uploaded a ton of fascinating behind the scenes images of some of the work that he and a team of other people contributed to visualizing the true form of the Space Jockeys, also known as 'Engineers' in the film. These enigmatic and massive humanoid creatures are a central plot point in the movie, and the key link to the first Alien movie.

I'll give it to whoever designed these guys though, as they definitely were visually striking and incredibly foreboding. The makeup work was so well done that I couldn't figure out if they were rendered in CG or comprised of practical effect work. If you've already seen the movie, venture forth into an awesome look at the development of the Engineer.

PROMETHEUS : Hype Levels Critical In New Trailer

If you are a regular visitor here at AwesomeRobo, by now you probably know just how badly we want this damn movie to be released. This new trailer for Ridley Scott newest entry to the Alien saga gives us the regular dose of hype, plus some few precious seconds of new footage, delving a little deeper on the plot of the movie and the relations between some of the crew members of Prometheus. Prometheus Shot Is Unbelievable

"Check out the stunning new Prometheus image discovered yesterday" said the official Prometheus twitter account. Stunning is not the word I would use as I study this image for the hundredth time; it's a thing of beauty. Where did this image come from? From what I understand, if you followed the @PrometheusMovie Twitter stream, you were able to register at the official Weyland industries site. Some viral campaign searching and decoding later and we had this high-resolution shot from the trailer.

If you weren't excited for this film before, this incredible shot gives a little taste of the type of eye candy we're about to receive. This movie will hopefully not disappoint and offer the franchise a well deserved breath of fresh air with Ridley back at the helm. Soon enough we'll find out whats in store for us.

NEW PROMETHEUS TRAILER

A brilliant new piece of viral marketing just dropped in regards to Ridley Scott's Prometheus movie, set to be released in June. I didn't quite understand why Guy Pearce overacted so much while playing the Peter Weyland role (Of the iconic Weyland Wutani Corporation), but that aside putting him in a future TED talk is just a brilliant move towards constructing a credible world and of course hype around this movie. Can't bloody wait.

Prometheus : The First Official Trailer

After an entire series of teasers featuring Ridley Scott himself, the official trailer has finally arrived for Prometheus, and it looks absolutely stunning. We've got all the elements of an excellent Alien prequel here: A scientific expedition of sorts, the discovery of a crash landed space ship (Like in the original Alien), and last but not least..A feeling of complete dread. I get this great feeling that Ridley is going to breathe life back into this series, which has been mishandled since Alien 3. Maybe we'll see a Nolan-esque reboot of the franchise!

The title of this movie is a story in itself, and I can see how it plays into the whole Alien origin story. This Greek mythology centers around the story of Prometheus, a Titan who attempted to steal fire from Zeus and give it to mortals. In doing so, he suffered quite the terrible punishment. If you think about it, this whole series has been about man attempting to meddle with forces unknown, and suffering the consequences. It'll be interesting to see how, and if they intend to play up the title of Prometheus. Nonetheless, this excellent trailer hints at a release date of 6/8/2012, and we can't wait to see more.

Prometheus: Ridley Scott Teases Trailer Release

This generation of marketing is getting weirder and weirder. We no longer have trailers, we have teaser trailers for actual trailers. It's a practice I find very weird, but strangely effective. As such, I present to you the second biggest film of next year, Prometheus.

We've hyped the film enough on this site do I really need to say more? Possible Alien prequel, Ridley Scott, Damon Lindelof of LOST fame...2012 couldn't come fast enough.

A while ago we posted some news about the current status on the new take of the Aliens saga by none other than Ridley Scott himself. Scheduled for June 8th 2012, this is the first official poster for the upcoming prequel/side story to the entire Aliens series, Prometheus. So far, it looks pretty damn creepy. We hope the movie lives up to the hype and expectations, and manages to tie into the actual

This guy started it all

It's been a while since any Aliens movie has been created. The saga didn't fare that well with half hearted sequels that ranged from good to plain awful.

But Mr Scott in a bold move, is going revitalize the franchise with a sort of prequel that is not really a prequel but a story that happens in the same Aliens universe.

It all revolves around one of the most intriguing figures in science fiction films, the space jockey. This massive lifeform stands in the middle of what seems to be a control chamber in the spaceship found in the first movie, in what is the most memorable scene i can recall of the whole saga.

The space jockey was kind of a mystery, nobody knew much about him and there are a bunch of theories on the web about his relevance on Aliens universe.

Prometheus, the greek myth, is the metaphor that will expand the mythos of the saga, driving the story on a more ''Lovecraftian'' way and will eventually, resolve all the questions that linger over the Mala'kak.

The film is already being filmed, and will be done with a low dose of cgi.
