Habitus
Habitus is a term in sociology that refers to, "the lifestyle, values, dispositions and expectations of a particular social group that are acquired throughout everyday life experience within that group". A concept beautifully illustrated by Timor Barshtman in this sleek three-minute motion graphic that charts the course of one man's journey through childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.

Tape - "Ecosystem"
The beauty of vector: Infinite scalability, impeccably clean lines and music videos like this ambient electro piece by Tape. The Lithuanian based creative collective created Ecosystem to showcase their abilities with motion graphics, and I think it does that wonderfully.
We're initially presented with a simple shape that ultimately metamorphoses into intricate machinery and a plethora of different synchronized designs and patterns. Pretty hypnotizing. You can check out their full reel after the break.

Juan Behren's Awesome Motion Graphics Reel
I love motion design, the ability to bring static illustrations to life, imbue them with personality with movement and fluidity. Juan Behrens (Aka Br4k) is one such artist, a well traveled animator, designer and illustrator specializing in high end motion illustration in the fields of broadcast advertising and beyond, with a total of 7 years of experience across a range of continents and a resume filled with high end clientele.
I think my personal love for motion design comes from the fact that I see it as a much more difficult, creative craft than plain out animation, which typically involves bringing a character to life. Motion design involves bringing things like text, and more abstract concepts to life within a much more limited timeframe, especially when it comes to things like idents..So when it's done well it's something to be really appreciated. Check out Juan's website for more extensive breakdowns, as well as a slew of different projects.

Limón Studios "Ibizious" Is Retrofuturistic Gold
Directed by Ernest Desumbila of the Barcelona based Limón Estudios, this ad for a finctional drink called 'Ibizious' is so ridiculously over the top, so fantastically crafted and beautifully stuck in the past that my mind hurt from the sheer awesome I experienced. If anything this sample piece should be a lightning rod for clients, indicating how well this studio can nail a certain style and all it's potential spinoffs within one video. Let's go through the 80's check list present in just this video: Copious amounts of sprites? Check. Chrome? Check. A fleet of vintage Testarossa Ferrari's traveling across a neon grid? Check. Stumbling zombies? Check. Retro synth music? Yep. This video has it all.
If you take the time to pause during the video, you'll notice that each shot is so well crafted that they could also double as images for print ads, no sweat. We've compiled a whole slew of these images for your reference, as it's a testament to what a good art director (Ivan Trivino) can accomplish for any project. Just the sheer energy in this video made my day that much more awesome, and I'm going off of 3 hours of sleep here. Check out a massive collection of amazing stills from Ibizious after the break! Kudos to Limón Estudios for absolutely killing it with this project, and I hope they stick around for a long time to come.

Night Stroll
Tao Tajima's Night Stroll was a fun project created on a whim, using standard footage captured on a rainy day on the streets of Tokyo and turning it into a mesmerizing exercise in motion graphics and compositing. A series of abstract geometric shapes and particles appear, disappear and pulse to the beat of the music, with the light emitted reflecting off the various surfaces present in the environments in a believable manner. It's a beautiful short with a simple, effectively executed concept, so be sure to check it out in full screen.

Saving Curiosity
Designed by Matthieu Findinier and directed/animated by Nicolas Hommel, Saving Curiosity is a slick one take motion design piece about a robot setting out from earth to repair the Curiosity Mars rover. The seamless transitions between settings and the mild parallax truly brought this piece to life.

Why Are We Not Home Yet?
Reminiscent of a glitched out version of Kubrick's 2001, George Fasswald's Why Are We Not Home Yet is an exercise in motion graphics using software like Cinema4D, Aftereffects and Realflow. These types of bite sized projects, held together by a loose narrative or abstract concept can be used to market the motiongraphers abilities to companies looking for ident artists.
Check out a few other samples of the Austrian artists work after the break.

Breakbot Video Projections By DIY - The Art Of Motiongraphing
I personally think motiongraphers don't quite get the credit they deserve for providing the visual aspects of live performances, the typically trippy imagery playing behind artists at venues. I've always been fascinated by this niche art, which relies on creating a visual flow to accompany the music in a synchronized fashion (Sometimes). These were created for Breakbot's shows at Coachella (Cali), Gaite Lyrique and Zenith (Paris), featuring an entrancing pastiche of retro visuals and mesmerizing patterns. Enjoy.

The Slick Motion Graphics Of Alexander Petterson
Swedish motion designer Alexander Petterson just recently migrated to LA to work with the design collective known as BUCK. I absolutely loved his slick, ident style morsels of audio visual stimulation, ranging from the very whimsical 'Cuckoo' to the ZZ Top inspired 'Legs' below. Fluid animation and sick presentation are his staples, and he goes by the monicker of 'Eggs 'n Bacon' online. Check out his showreel after the break!

62 YEARS OF Formula One
Rufus Blacklock, a London based graphic designer has delivered this amazing motion graphics video showcasing over 60+ years of car design in the Formula 1 racing category. Its minimalistic simplicity in full effect, displaying only the relevant elements that have changed over the years. Pay special attention to the evolution of the engines arrays. Bloody awesome.
On a side note, Formula 1 will be returning to the US in November with a Grand Prix at a brand new track currently under construction in Austin, Texas. If you've never had a chance to check it out, lets just say that its somewhere around a million times more interesting than racing in a circle and turning left.

Tokyo O' Clock Reel 2012
Tokyo O' Clock is a fresh media design studio based out of Barcelona run by 6 very passionate specialists from around Spain. According to the folks at the studio, between the lot of them they've lost a few thousand hours of sleep over the course of the last year. That lack of sleep has allowed them to crank out enough awesome work to put together their first reel, a dizzying array of projects created since their debut in 2011. It's great to see passionate people working hard to achieve greatness! Check out their website for a glimpse at each of the 20 projects they've completed.
