Throwback Thursday: Major Lazer - Aerosol Can Feat. Pharrel

Yes, I'll admit that once in a very long while, a choice music video or short film does manage to escape the long-sight of the omnipresent hive-mind that is Awesome-Robo. Though we are dedicated to bringing the very latest in awesome art, animation, movies, and off-the-wall internet content, we also know the value of giving incredible art of the past its proper due. So, for the week's throwback thursday, we're bringing it back to Major Lazer's animated video for the track Aerosol Can featuring Pharrel on vocals. Enjoy!

Snoop Lion Feat. Major Lazer - "Get Away"

Snoop Lion heads into his very own distinct version of Pokemon (Yellow, Red and Green of course) and other retro homages, squaring off against the likes of Major Lazer, who puts up a stiff fight in all the various levels they find themselves in.

While the track sounds distinctly Major Lazer, I was surprised to find out that this is actually from Snoop's latest album, 'Reincarnated,' which I'm now kicking myself in the head for not having listened to it earlier. The music video was directed by Ashten 'Whoopi' Winger and animated by Mykola Dosenko.

Major Lazer - "Scare Me"

When's Major Lazer getting a movie adaptation? With the latest music video for Scare Me, it seems obvious that the collective might definitely be headed in that direction with the campy 90's era B-Movie direction they took, featuring Lazer's exploits against a terrorist by the name of General Rubbish. Quite a few cameos in this fun music video, including Nick Kroll in his most serious role yet as the general giving orders to Laser and his side kick called Knife Fight (Lauren London of Entourage), as well as Blake from Workaholics.

If you're a fan of the first Robocop, you'll also get a kick of a certain homage to one of it's more memorable scenes, minus the Omni Consumer Products. The track is from Free The Universe, which is out now via Mad Decent.

Major Lazer World Tour Intro

The design group known as Golden Wolf claimed that it was a dream come true to work on the electro-Reggae fusion dancehall project originally born from the mind of DJ/Producers Diplo & Switch back in 2008. The project has enlisted the likes of M.I.A., Santigold, Snoop Lion, Shaggy, Bruno Mars and many others since it's inception, as well as the directing talents of Eric Wareheim on multiple videos that to this day still haunt my dreams.

These visuals were created for the groups Free The Universe 2013 World Tour, showing the Gi-Joe era styled Major Lazer making his landing on a post apocalyptic planet following the events of the first album, ready to liberate the universe from it's cyborg despots. The album was released earlier this year under the Secretly Canadian label.

Its been too long since we've featured Major Lazer, and this music video is a wonderfully downtempo departure from the past releases that the collaborative used to put out. If you don't know much about the history of Major Lazer, the project was born as a collaborative effort between two DJ/producers, Diplo and Switch after meeting while working with M.I.A.. Unfortunately, it turns out Switch left the project late last year due to creative differences, and whether or not this track reflects the new direction of Major Lazer along with the recent (And equally awesome) Original Don, it really isn't a bad change at all in my opinion. After all that killing and war, even the Major needs to chill out and reflect a little.

I just had this creeping feeling that the Balisong/Jian sword duo would get noticed in a big way sooner or later, but I wasn't expecting this. Major Lazer, the collab DJ/Producer duo (Diplo & Switch) behind some truly insane, awesome tracks like Pon De Floor decided to pick these guys up for their newest music video, Original Don. And unlike the previous videos the knife wielding duo have released, grandma gets involved this time.
