Art Of The Title - 50 Years Of James Bond Title Screens

Art of the Title recently wrote up a truly fascinating in depth article about the process behind creating 50 years worth of memorable opening sequences for Bond flicks. From the iconic 'Bond Barrel' sequences to the incredibly stylish and well crafted openings, they've become engrained in our psyche as a staple of pop culture in some form or the other. I'd really recommend checking out the article, and if you haven't seen Skyfall just yet, it's got one of the most memorable openings to a Bond film in recent memory.

You might not be aware, but 2012 marks 50 years of James Bond movies. As a result of this fifty year anniversary, the internet has been flooded with supercuts and remixes of the best moments in the franchise, but none quite as good as this one. This mix according to it's creators, features the 'best James Bond music, all the best James Bond scenes and all the best James Bond quotes. Girls, cars, suits, guns, action and music; this video represents all that is great about James Bond.'

E3 2012 Back To The Future Award: 007 LEGENDS

People have said that the game industry at times is guilty of recycling the same gameplay and slapping on a new coat of paint on various titles, but sitting in on a presentation of 007 Legends absolutely floored us. Considering that we had a chance to check a presentation for this title out after Call Of Duty : Black Ops 2, a prime example of a modern FPS was potentially a mistake on Activision's part.

What absolutely blew our mind about this title was the lack of any form of ambition to innovate, with a truly bored sounding developer nonchalantly spouting off antiquated features which would have been impressive about a decade or two back or so. Imagine 1997's Goldeneye with an early next gen engine, and you kind of get an idea about how monstrously outdated the gameplay in this lazy looking film tie in for the upcoming 'Skyfall' Bond flick is.

What made us laugh more than anything following the presentation was when the in game Bond whipped out a high tech camera gadget in a game which was supposed to be set in 1979. A reporter in the room with us asked the Eurocom developer, 'Whats with the cellphone?' At which point the instantly annoyed presenter interrupted with, 'Its all modern era technology for this game.' Now think about this, the title is called 'Legends,' but its set in a 'modern' era in which people still wear corny retro scifi jumpsuits? What type of bizarre line were they trying to walk here? For the sheer outdated, stale nature of the gameplay and their bizarre decisions regarding this game, we are proud to bestow this title with a new blast to the past award category for this year's E3, our 'Back To The Future' award. Congratulations for being stuck in the past guys!

Skyfall trailer releases : sparks my excitement for James Bond once more

Unlike most people, I loved Quantum of Solace. While it may not have been quite as good as Casino Royale, it was still a fantastic entry in the Bond universe (despite the heavy lack of gadgets). After the release of Quantum of Solace the future of the Bond series was looking rather bleak as MGM drew closer to it's final days.

Luckily, the end of MGM never came to fruition and four years later we're treated with the next entry in the James Bond Universe. Yes, it's a teaser trailer and it doesn't show a whole lot, but the movie is still looking god damn sexy and that Bond remix at the end really stirred up some interest. Color me excited.

I remember reading an idea for the new Bond film that was very similar to this idea. The idea was that the name "James Bond" is a code name passed down from generation to generation, and would explain different actors in a truly British, Doctor Who style way.

This artwork by deviantart user ninjaink describes the story which involves the original Cold War era James Bond (played by Sean Connery in a returning role), who has gone rogue and become the head of SPECTRE, with the current Bond being tasked by MI6 to stop him before he can initiate a global thermonuclear war. That's a movie I would watch, and this is one beautiful poster for a movie that we are likely never to see.
