The 8-Bit Olmypic Games

This fine pixelated ode to the Olympics by Flikli covers over 35 different disciplines, ranging from archery to water polo, complete with a fitting Commodore 64 era soundtrack. There's nothing like an 8-bit sports montage to get you out of the house on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

PBS Off Book : The Evolution Of 8bit Art

I've got a fixation with 8bit goodness, and PBS delivers yet again with their wonderfully relevant Off Book series. This episode, which focuses on the lasting appeal of the format discusses how its come back based off of a combination of nostalgia and creative uses. There's a certain appeal to working with limitations, and countless artists in various formats have found a way to express themselves using the venue of 8bit. This minidoc goes into the gamut of ways that the 8bit format has stood the test of time in the unlikeliest of ways.

The Other Brothers

So, I'm not quite sure what to expect from The Other Brothers. While it's definitely playing direct homage to the Mario Brothers, I haven't quite figured out what the game is. Still, gameplay aside, The Other Brothers is looking to be a sharp sidescroller, with a sleek retro style. Color me intrigued! The above trailer definitely helps cement my interest in the game. Mario 64 Samples And Mass Amounts of Flow = Wax and EOM

Lately the forum has been getting quite a few awesome submissions, but this piece submitted by GFUNKALLSTAR is by the far the best (and so far the first) hip-hop track we've ever been given. The song which features a few samples from (correct me if I'm wrong) Mario 64, Luigi's Mansion and of course Super Mario World, all sampled by EOM. Wax on the other hand has some of the best flow I've heard in a while, mixing in some awesomely witty versus.

Life In Pixels

This video just recently came out, featuring some amazingly crunchy 8 bit synth set to beautiful, mildly pixelated scenery with a vintage, coffee stained look. In a few ways it kind of reminds me of the Matta: Release The Freq video we released a few months back which featured footage of deer connecting into a hive mind, set to dubstep. I have to say I kind of preferred how Daniel Rau's version turned out, edging out Matta's unique entry thanks to the choice music alone. Good stuff.
