A Little Film About... Thomas Burden
A Little Film About... Thomas Burden is an inventive and inspiring look into the method and little madness of the film's titular 3D illustrator. In three minutes, Burden takes us through a day in his creative life, exploring the humble origins of his subject matter and style ( 60-70's National Geographic meets Argyll Story Catalog), the temperament of his quiet village home of Chichester, his home-life, and the intentions and motivations behind his work.
His pieces capture a vibe of child-like abandon and Clokey-like aestheticism. Burden is a meticulous illustrator and an adventurous tinkerer, smashing shapes together to create oddball creatures and miniature worlds of wonder. Check out more of his awesome work at his personal website, and give the guys and gals at Handsome Frank a nod too for making such a gorgeously Wes Anderson-esque video.

Pedro Conti's Pirate Sculpting Timelapse
We really need to feature more 3D work on AwesomeRobo. Between the explosion of the 3D printing scene and the massive strides with sculpting and rendering packages, it's as accessible as it'll ever be in this day and age. Pedro Conti, a Brazilian based 3D generalist who brought us the amazingly colorful One More Beer short last year returns with a multi-hour timelapse of a pirate sculpt in Pixologic's Zbrush.
The final result was an incredibly high quality render done in what I'm guessing looks like Marmoset, which allows artists to create cinematic renders of their work for just over $100. Just a few years ago software like this would have cost a casual user a few thousand dollars for a license. That's the best kind of progress.

Street Fighter Sculpted In Motion
Who knew that tracking character motion in Street Fighter would look this awesome? Using Cinema 4D, Dan The Ad Man has created this unique animation that sculpts the motion of some of Street Fighter's most beloved characters. Seeing the trail of Ryu's Hadouken is by far one of the coolest things I've seen rendered this year.
Imagine what a full match of Street Fighter would look like after using this rendering this process; it would be a beautiful clusterf*ck. Quick, someone at Capcom scoop up this idea, I would pay good money for a feature like this in the next Street Fighter. Sh*t, did I just give Capcom an idea for more DLC? For more of Dan's work and a few stills from the above video, head over to his website here.
