Frank Lin's work is just great..A breath of fresh air in more ways than one with his unconventional visual style. We're used to browsing tons of art and illustration work on a daily basis, and at times it does all start to gel together, especially when people don't stick to their guns and simply start following trends. For example- at the moment there's a huge trend in the concept art field to simply photobash everything together with little painting at all..It makes sense for an experienced artist ina production environment, but to the swathes of naive, aspiring concept artists without a proper art foundation- it's a dangerous mistress to say the least.
Tangent aside, I was drawn in by Frank's style, which is definitely catered to the storybook illustration niche. There's a ton of playful experimentation here, ranging from working with textures and patterns, experimenting with different degrees of painterly to flat areas, and straight out fun work like the eye popping Luchabros illustration pictured above. Check out more of his awesome work after the break.
