Sony Announces Three Awesome Indies

There's no denying it, the launch of the Playstation 3 was absolutely abysmal, filled with bad press up the ass, but lately it seems Sony has turned a new leaf. Since the announcement of the Playstation 4 it's hard to find anything bad about the company especially in terms of games and how they're treating indie developers. It's become increasingly apparent that the cost of developing AAA games is too damn high and to thwart this, Sony has brought in a huge slew of indie developers to develop some awesome looking content for the PS4, PS3 and Vita.

The first title, seen above, is CounterSpy, a love letter to side-scrollers and all things Metroidvania. The style alone is enough to draw me and with the possibility of a co-op mode CounterSpy is definitely worth keeping an eye on. Hit the jump for the two more beautiful titles.

Next up is Hohokum, a Santa Monica project set for 2014 where players take control of a technicolor worm. Rather than forcing players with a set objective, it's up to the player to choose what they want to do without feeling like their failing. The unique world will still provide a challenge, but it's up to the player to decide on what they want to do.

Last but not least is my most looked forward to project of the three, Doki-Doki Universe. Created by the man himself, Greg Johnson (best known for Toe Jam and Earl), the game, which is more along the lines of a toy, is provided as a free downloaded which opens up for premium purchases. Players who download the free game can still explore the world of Doki-Doki Universe but to truly interact, players will need to purchase the full content. From the screenshots alone, the game looks like a fun little experience.

I'm extremely excited to see the steps Sony is making to bring indie developers to the forefront and it definitely seems like they're fully embracing it with their next-gen console. Make sure to click the links for each game to get a full explanation of the title and to get some extra screenshots.
