Well, I was sold on the word "Booster" (Via) |
Why is Booster Gold so popular? Booster Gold was created by Dan Jurgens and made his comic book debut in 1986. Outside the superhero persona, Booster Gold is Michael Jon Carter, a young man born in Gotham City in the 25th Century. He is a great athlete and ends up getting a football scholarship to Gotham University. Michael's father soon returns to his life, and convinces Michael to bet on games and then throw them. It's not long before the College Star gets caught and banned from playing. Michael then takes a job at the Metropolis Space Museum and starts to study heroes and villains from the past. Thanks to a little help from a Museum security robot, Michael steals Brainiac-5's force-field belt, a Legion Flight ring, and Rip Hunter's Time Machine to go back to the 20th Century. He used sponsors and was all about the money until one of the most famous cross-overs, 52 (a 4-part book I HIGHLY suggest you all read) where he saves the universe and in Flashpoint where he....well, I can't give it away.
The series itself is a great read and although DC didn't pick it up you can check out Booster Gold in Justice League International, the many graphic novels of his past adventures and in his appearance of the 10th and final season of Smallville which actually was very faithful to his character.
With a new Blue Beetle show also rumoured to be in production could we see a Ted Kord (The second incarnation of the Blue Beetle and close friend of Booster) crossover? We can only hope.
