Inside Fukushima

A Japanese journalist known as Tetsuo Jimbo recently installed some geiger counters onto his dashboard and decided to head into the ever expanding evacuation zone to see what had become of the towns and area around the Fukushima reactor.  What he found was a surreal collection of pristine houses completely abandoned, dogs and animals wandering the street and formerly inhabited areas frozen in time.

Its chilling to think that this might be our last glimpse into the area for a long time, as the radioactive threat level was recently raised to 7 by the Japanese government due to the ever worsening conditions at the reactor.  For context, the Chernobyl incident was classified as a level 7 radioactive event back in 1986.  As a result of this catastrophe the area might become permanently uninhabitable for decades to come.

  1. This is just sad. How could this happen again?

  2. I want this to not be real. The idea that this entire area in which people lived happily will be sealed off for decades just doesn't make sense. Is there nothing they can do?
