Epic Games Showcases Next-Gen Engine

A lot of big things happened during this year's GDC, one of those was a private screening of  Epic Games' next-gen Unreal engine. Thankfully someone was kind enough to sneak some footage from the event. Good lord, does it look good.

While I'm hoping for a couple more years before the next-gen kicks off, this Unreal showcase is lubing me up for incredible things to come (pun intended). Not only does this engine look fantastic, but it's really got me thinking about how awesome a Blade Runner video game would be, especially with this level of power to back it up.

  1. Looks like what the next-generation has to offer (although I believe this is just running on an updated version of UE3) are even more polygons and fancier shaders to make even prettier corridor shooters and post-apocalyptic futures.

What would impress me with an UE update would be (finally) rendering convincing human hair or building upon physics simulations that significantly change how you interact with the environment. While I'm sure shader updates are great for artists who want even more flexibility to design the game world, as a consumer I could honestly care less.
