Interstellar's Final Trailer Slings Us To The Farthest Corners Of The Universe

Christopher Nolan's Interstellar sci-fi odyssey is looking phenomenal. The promotional material and each subsequent trailer leading up to the film's November release date never fail to ramp up the stakes and make the anticipation of waiting increasingly more unbearable. Interstellar's latest trailer shows us glimpses of a world caught in the grip of a global dust storm, crop-dusting predator drones and futuristic robots skirting across snow-capped planetscapes.

While I could jokingly call this "The Farmer Astronaut 2", I am genuinely pumped to see this when it comes out in theaters. I've been starved for an awesome sci-fi epic lately and from the looks of it Nolan is clearly delivering on that. November 7th can't come soon enough.

Lunar Is Looking Pretty Impressive

Science fiction... Science fiction as far the eye could see! Even still, with the flood of futuristic fantasy shorts and films, boundaries continue to be pushed. Lunar, an independent film written and directed by Tyson Wade Johnston, is looking to sport some sexy visuals to help stand out in a field of science fiction madness. Using impressive CGI to bring the futuristic setting of Earth to life, the mixture of overlays and CG robots makes for a rather believable settings. While the story seems more along the lines of a big budget action film (similar in vein the 2012 film, Lockout), the visuals may be the films driving force come it's release.

Europa Report - Trailer

While this particular sci-fi genre is nothing too new, I'm pleased to see what appears to be a more realistic-looking space exploration film. Though many draw comparisions to the 1984 film '2010,' we're optimistic this new film directed by Sebastian Cordero will be something worth watching.

We tire of the scare tactics + space = film formula, and are hopeful this movie will be able to combine both the fear of space (i.e. the fear of the unknown) and the natural curiosity that humans possess. An online on-demand US release will be made June 27, 2013, with a limited US theatrical release to occur August 2, 2013.

'Gravity' Makes Space a Little More Terrifying

I said earlier last month that the amount of science fiction being released is absolutely amazing and a little overwhelming, but I can't argue with the fact that there will always be room for more. Gravity looks like quite a depressing trip through space, telling the story of lone astronauts drifting through space after debris rips their station to pieces. The trailer does a fantastic job showcasing the movies intensity. Judging from Alfonso Cuarón's filmography, there's definitely some Oscar possibilities here.

Project Kronos

Excuse my language with the opening of this post but, f*ck yeah Sci-Fi! It seems the genre has reached a second coming in terms of sheer quality and originality. With the fantastic films hitting theaters to the independent work found online, there is truly something for every niche of the genre. Even with all of the quality out there, it isn't every day that I manage to come across a short filled with as much potential as seen in Hasraf 'HaZ' Dulull's Project Kronos.

Using a style similar to what can be seen in scientific documentaries, the fictitious Space Agency describes their journey into space using the human brain as nothing more than a computerized hard drive. That in itself is enough to spur up some interesting debate on how we perceive the human soul. The entire short does an amazing job at painting a believable scientific journey and I often found myself losing touch with reality as I fell into the constructed world, it's truly a mind bender.

I fully expect to see quite a few Hollywood heads turn towards Dulull once this video goes viral, because it's absolutely destined for it. If I don't hear more about the continuation of this film in the coming months I'll eat my shoe, because this is truly an incredible piece of cinema that deserves to be expanded upon.

True Skin

From N1ON comes a sci-fi short film called 'True Skin.' It tells the story of a future where humans elect to have themselves augmented by technology. It's a future where 'naturals' are shunned by a superior, implanted society. A man finds himself augmented with a classified implant, which turns him into a target of covert agents. It has a futuristic feel that isn't overly done or cheesy. Other have suggested that it feels similar to something like BladeRunner or even Deus EX: Human Revolution (Remember the Shanghai level?), but I think this has the potential to be an awesome feature on it's own merit.

Iron Sky: The Theatrical Trailer

It was roughly 9 months ago that we first brought you the teaser trailer to Iron Sky. Finally, the full theatrical trailer has been released! For a rather campy concept (space Nazis!), this looks like a rather well-made (or at least, well-thought-out) movie. Sadly, it doesn't look like there is any plan to release it here in the US (though I hold out hope!). Set to be premiered at the Berlin Film Festival on February 11th, a few other select European countries will receive it in April. Lets keep those fingers crossed for an independent release here in the US.

THE Fantastic WORLDS OF DAN McPHARLIN

Mysterio astronaut (via)

Dan is a graphic artist from Australia with a very peculiar, retro style. His artistic production ranges from album covers, to little computer console sculptures brought back from the 60's. When I saw his portfolio, it made me remember the Elric series book covers. Maybe with a more darker approach than in those days, Dan's work relies heavily on his ability to construct atmospheres.

All of his work, even if unrelated seems to share the same space, a parallel universe somewhere. Space ships and panoramas from dusty forgotten futures. Dan has collaborated with Guillermo Scott Herren (a.k.a. Prefuse 73), for some of his illustrations. Once you see the covers and then listen to the music, you'll think these two are the same person.

Maschinen Krieger is a line of scale models kits based on the universe created by Kow Yokoyama, Hiroshi Ichimura and Kunitaka Imai in the 80's.

With aesthetics that probably went on to inspire the works of Junji Okubo, Krieger presents a retro space look that seems borrowed from early space science fiction movies, The series has a solid fan base that collects and share designs interpretations from all over the world ( mostly in Germany and Japan) like this site, that really takes things into a whole different level.

There seems to be no coherent storyline and some data overlaps with older documents and stories but it doesn't really matter, as the models look awesome anyway. Check out a few more images of cool Krieger kits after the break!
