Ai Weiwei - The Fake Case Trailer

After 81 days of solitary detention world famous Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is put under house arrest. He suffers from sleeping disorder and memory loss, 18 cameras are monitoring his studio and home, police agents follow his every move, and heavy restrictions from the Kafkaesque Chinese authorities weigh him down.

Journalists, the art world and his family all want a piece of him and on top of that he is hit with a gigantic lawsuit from the Chinese government, which he soon names The Fake Case. Ai Weiwei is shaken, but during the year on probation he steadily finds new ways to provoke and challenge the mighty powers of the Chinese authorities in his fight for human rights. Ai Weiwei strongly believes that China is ready for change. And he will do everything to make it happen.

Next Floor

Next Floor is one of the best shorts I've seen as of late, excellently produced with some incredibly biting social commentary mixed in for the blend. It took me a few viewings to quite fully understand it, but eventually it came to me all at once - It's a striking look at human hubris and the cyclical nature of greed. With every 'crash' that results from their over indulgence, nothing is learned while their servants, obviously not as privileged stare ahead, unnervingly clear eyed to the madness unfolding before them. At which point will the bottom fall out indefinitely? Thoughts to ponder.

During an opulent and luxurious banquet, eleven guests, served unrestrained by valets and servants attentive, engaged in a ritualistic gastronomic carnage paces. In this absurd and grotesque universe, an unexpected sequence of events undermines the endless symphony of abundance.

Killer Mike - Reagan

Aside from having a fantastic, stylish music video, created with a limited palette of 4 colors (The Red, white and blue, go figure), Killer Mike's hyper political ryhmes carry an interesting thread of truth about repercussions that past political decisions have had on generations to come. The music video is a stew of conspiracy theorist imagery, including illuminati symbolism, puppet political figures and undead powered killer robots destroying America and taking over the world. The track is from Killer Mike's R.A.P. Music album, which was published by the folks over at Williams Street.

Alex Gross is one of the key figures of the modern pop surrealist art movement, creating pieces that encompass themes of mass globalization, gentrification and commercialization. His pieces all seem to contain subsersive messages about the dangers of current consumer culture, emphasizing how we've become overly brand-centric and obsessed with material gain in our society.

All of his pieces are executed in oil on canvas and other mediums, and each piece has a story of its own to tell. Check out some more of his incredible work after the break!
