The Art of Yuanda Yu

(via)
Yuanda Yu is an eight-year veteran concept artist with over twelve collective years of experience in digital illustration, and boy does it shows. His meticulous attention to detail is superb, his subject matter covers the gamut of hard line post-apocalyptic and speculative sci-fi tropes.

The subtle incorporation of pronounced yet careful visual cues to a variety of different culture precedes the temperament of an artist who devotes himself to the passionate study of world culture as well as illustration. Yu is currently working as a senior artist for Barajoun Entertainment and has done work for CCP and Webzen. Check out a sampling of his work after the break!

Tulkou

Directed by Mohamed Fadera and Sami Guellai, Tulkou is an incredibly charming short, especially considering the medium it was executed in, using a mixture of stop motion, 3D and hand animation to craft a truly appealing, cardboard cutout style. The somewhat cobbled together look fits perfectly with Tulkou's shanty town-esque setting, following a fisherman dragging in his catch of the day, which turns out to be anything but a fish.

Over the course of a few hours the fisherman's fascination with the mysterious entity dragged from the depths turns into an odd and unlikely friendship, ultimately culminating in an unlikely gesture of their unspoken relationship.

Nandan Ghiya's Glitch Portraits

Nandan Ghiya's 'The Dreamer' series was created as a commentary on the internet age, and the result of being bombarded on a daily basis with as he put it, an excess of visual stimuli. The Jaipur, India based artist created this excellent series of deconstructed portraits with a mixed media approach, using photography, acrylics and found objects to turn normal portraits into glitched out, corrupted interpretations of traditional art.

Nandan also seems to follow the 'everything has become a remix' mentality, although I get the impression that he might not see it as a positive change: 'We all recycle, clip and cut, remix and upload. We can make images do anything. All we need is an eye, a brain, a camera, a phone, a laptop, a scanner, a point of view. And when we’re not editing, we’re making. We’re making more than ever, because our resources are limitless and the possibilities are endless.'

Check out more of his glitched out portraits after the break.

Space Shower TV Idents

Space Shower TV is a Japanese produced equivalent of MTV which was spun up within the last few years, and as part of that formula they've also created a ton of idents for their channel. The 30 to 45 second mini ads were created by a huge range of Japanese talent, including Hiroto Kato of the recent Lupin reboot.

I went through all of them and picked out five more idents showcasing just how wide they went with the initiative, featuring everything from pop art and 3D to stop motion and anime flavored shorts. Check them out after the break, and take a second to grieve over what MTV has unfortunately become here in the US.
