'Tales from The Borderlands' First Trailer is a Smorgasbord of Insanity

When news first broke about Gearbox and Telltale games' Tales from the Borderlands, I was understandably skeptical. Sure, the two have worked before on the hilarious-yet-short Poker Night 2, but the feeling just couldn't be shaken that these were just two great developers best experienced at different paces. How do you translate Borderland's trigger happy, high-adrenaline ridiculousness into a genre that's primarily focused on detail-laden deliberation? After watching this first trailer, suddenly all my doubts were evaporated in a fit of starry-eyed laughter and anticipation.

Well whaddaya know, a familiar face!
From the looks of it, Tales has players assume the roles of Rhys and Fiona, an up-and-coming young executive and grifter who are trying to seize fortune and control over the Hyperion organization in the wake of the power vacuum left by Handsome Jack's justly-deserved demise. Things quickly go off the rails from there, as the two are pitted against and alongside one another in a battle of wills that will decide the entire fate of Pandora. If everything goes well, I think Telltale and Gearbox may just deliver one of the most memorable adventure experience in recent memory. Fingers crossed on this one.

'What The Hell Happened to Aliens: Colonial Marines?'

If you have been paying any attention to recent gaming news, you have more than definitely spotted at least one article utterly destroying Sega and Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines. For a game that's been in development for over 7 years, this might already take the cake for 2013's biggest gaming disappointments. I seem to distinctly remember the excitement I held for the game's release, it finally looked like a return to form for Aliens, but it looks like things fell apart. No one is quite sure what happened during the game's development quite yet, but something catastrophic definitely occurred at some point. Some developers that we know have hinted at the fact that a good chunk of the game was outsourced to Timegate studios (The developers of Section 9) while Gearbox focused on developing their own IP's, so we're wondering if there is any correlation.

This comparison video shows quite a bit of footage from the the pre-release that garnered a lot of my (and many others) excitement, while comparing it to the god awful release build that seems to enjoy dropping a massive sh*t on any hopes I had for the IP. Probably the biggest surprise out of this is just how much they changed in terms of atmosphere, why the hell would you remove fog, god dammit! I can't even begin to fathom why this game took such a dramatic change for the worst and I'm not quite sure I even want to know. This might just be another case of gameplay target footage created by the company versus reality, an ongoing bad practice in the game industry.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Gets Gameplay Free Trailer

Its been quite a few years since we've had a good videogame based off the Aliens franchise..The last one I remember playing that wasn't altogether terrible was Aliens Vs Predator 2 from way back in 2001, developed by Monolith (The makers of F.E.A.R.). The latest entry published by SEGA in 2010, simply titled 'Aliens Vs Predator' failed to impress and garnered lackluster reviews.

Gearbox, the folks behind Borderlands have been working on this entry since 2006, and the actual 'Aliens: Colonial Marines' videogame has been floating around since 2001. Prior to Gearbox getting their hands on the concept, a now defunct studio called Check Six was developing the same title for the PS2, but it never materialized. I recall Randy Pitchford (The president of Gearbox) mentioning a few years back that it was temporarily shelved because they couldn't figure out how to make a squad based Aliens shooter fun. Things must have changed since then, because the title is now slated for a fall release. Lets hope for some gameplay footage soon.
