Fuga

Fuga is both the Italian and Spanish word for 'escape,' and Juan Antion Espigares' short is a phenomenal short which uses a mixture of CG, hand animation and live action footage to narrate a chilling tale. A girl with a desire to musically succeed ends up crossing the path of an obsessed individual with nothing to lose.

The beautiful pastel aesthetic is a little jarring at first, but over time it is revealed that the world around these two is only an interpretation due to the affliction that these girls share. The haunting orchestral score by Arturo Díez Boscovich really took this short to another level. For anyone who enjoyed Black Swan, this might hit a familiar tune.

Sara, who has just arrived at St Cecilia's Conservatory, will discover there are different ways to interpret each side of the prism from which she perceives her reality and talent.

Cuushe - "Airy Me"

Animated by Yoko Kuno for Japanese artist Cuushe's debut album, dubbed as 'Red Rocket Telepathy,' Airy Me is an ethereral, dreamy electro-pop track driven by Cuushe's delicate vocals. The visuals pay a definite stylistic homage to the works of Osamu Tezuka and Katsuhiro Otomo, with the doe eyed nurse protagonist of this short dealing with an unexpected horror either born from her own mind or some supernatural process.

With it's never ending animated movement, Airy Me turns into a mesmerizing trip open for your own personal interpretation. If you're interested in learning more about this debut artist, check out the English friendly label publishing the work of Cuushe, 'Flau' right here.

Stuck In The Sound - Let's Go

French indie rockers extraordinaire Stuck In The Sound return with an absolutely kickass music video for their fantastic 'Let's Go' track, animated by Alexis Beaumont and Remi Godin. Narrating the story of a Chinese fellow and his mission to fulfill his dream of being an astronaut, he finds himself faced with the worst, worst case scenario possible. Ambition can be a double edged sword. The music video is beautifully animated, poignant and even finds a way to inject some humor and hope into an otherwise soul crushing scenario. I thought I'd seen the best that 2012 had to offer musically already, but this one absolutely takes the damn cake. Give their 'Pursuit' album a listen, you won't regret it.
