Saint Motel - "My Type"

LA based alt-rockers Saint Motel tapped into a dormant disco vein for My Type, a fantastically fun track with plenty of retro instrumental stylings throughout. The track is from their upcoming EP, which will be dropping sometime in July accompanied by an extensive summer tour schedule, their followup to 2012's excellent 'Voyeurs' album. Directed and edited by A/J Jackson, the music video beckons back to colorful 70's era aesthetics and cinematography. An awesome homage all around.

Band Of Skulls - "Hoochie Coochie"

Alt rock outfit Band of Skulls just released a new music video for Hoochie Coochie, taken from their 'Himalayan' album, and it's presented as a narrative playing backwards. Starting from a household and moving on to a strip club, and we witness the way certain people eke out a living. The message here though is about finding a way of giving back in even the toughest of situations. No matter what the predicament, everyone is capable of doing good for others.

With the release of 'Himalayan' out of the way, I've got no doubts that Band Of Skulls are going to have quite a busy summer festival season head of them. Give the album a listen if you haven't already, it's pretty damn good.

Ulrich Forman - "I Got You"

Fantastic gem of a music video directed by the Parisian duo Garnier/LeGallo , who executed a truly unique vision for alt rocker Ulrich Foreman. The entire short has a strangely awkward, yet charming stop motion style to it, which was accomplished in a surprising manner according to Nicholas Garnier.

While most people would call this style a 'Matrix effect' with a bunch of cameras capturing a performer standing still to allow a rotating view of a frozen performer, they were able to emulate the same effect using one camera, Ulrich standing still and shooting at 12fps with plenty of post work to create those cool transitions in the music video. Would have never guessed unless the directors actually disclosed it themselves. Very cool execution.

Jack White - "High Ball Stepper"

Former White Stripes frontman Jack White has been at it again, making waves with rumors of a new LP called 'Lazaretto.' With High Ball Stepper we're given a pretty electric taste of what's to come, with an instrumental sound that beckons to the bygone days of Led Zeppelin's audacious sound.

From a visual standpoint, the music video is an experiment in reverberation, vibration and frequency - featuring paint and other materials taking on an absolutely alien consistency when placed inside booming speakers.

Vance Joy - "Riptide"

The latest music video for Aussie alt-rock singer/songwriter Vance Joy is a fun exercise in literal   interpretation. Directed by Dimitri Basil, the entire music video has a slightly Wed Anderson-esque look and playfulness to it, especially with the retro tinge and whimsical cinematography. Literal interpretations of lyrics to this degree typically fall flat on their faces, but Dimitri figured out how to make it absolutely awesome.

Arun Tazieff - "Those Visions Have No End"

Created by animator Nicolas Fong for Parisan prog rockers Arun Tazieff, this music video for Those Visions Have No End is a trip from start to finish, created using tons of looped animation. The somewhat psychedelic, warped music video is a perfect accompaniment considering the band's inspiration from groups like King Crimson and the Flaming Lips.

Midnight Juggernauts - "Systematic"

One of my favorite Aussie alt rockers just released their incredibly trippy music video for Systematic, featuring oh so many birds, cats and surreal amalgams of both presented in glorious black and white. The track is taken from Midnight Juggernauts' latest 2013 album titled 'Uncanny Valley' which you can nab in a CD or record format from the Record Makers store. Enjoy the feline rain.
