Abita

This graduate Thesis film by Shoko Hara und Paul Brenner ventures into the harsh reality of the Fukushima accident as seen through the eyes of a child exposed to the unfortunate incident. Centered around a girl called Abita, who finds herself quarantined due to exposure to radiation, the short is a showcase of her innocent dreams of the outside world, captured in a wonderful watercolor style reminiscent of Sumi ink. Once that geiger counter starts crackling though, Abita turns into a very unsettling piece about lost youth.
