Hailing from Seoul, Hwang Sungwon carries the rather rare title of 'fairytale writer,' with a style that really takes me back to growing up and browsing the library for books with cool pictures. The cool thing about Sungwon is that his sensibilities beckon back to an older era of fairytales, ones that were meant to actually teach children lessons through actual fear, a rare breed that has been dying out thanks to over protective parenting.
Just his style, which is created using a heavily inked/ballpoint style is unsettling to look at. There's nothing sugar coated about his visual narratives, including the adventures of a blue girl across a series of different illustrations. Check out more of his interesting work after the break.
