The Venus Of Rabo
Directed by François Bertin, The Venus Of Rabo is an entertaining nine minute short featuring a prehistoric hunter called 'Rabo' and his quest to break free from his monotonous cave painting routine and overbearing tribal boss. Rabo eventually finds an unlikely source of inspiration, and as a result a secret project is born which ultimately takes complete control of him.
The short employs an interesting narrative technique of using a cipher character to place us into this strange realm, in this case a rather futuristic looking fellow in a blue jump suit who looks and acts quite out of place among his prehistoric partners. The color keying to fit the mood and animation style is truly amazing in itself, even drawing some inspiration from Princess Mononoke during a certain sequence (Check out those boars).
